Advances in technologies including development of smartphone features have contributed to the growth of mobile applications, including dating apps. However, online dating services can be misused. To ...support law enforcement investigations, a forensic taxonomy that provides a systematic classification of forensic artifacts from Windows Phone 8 (WP8) dating apps is presented in this study. The taxonomy has three categories, namely: Apps Categories, Artifacts Categories, and Data Partition Categories. This taxonomy is built based on the findings from a case study of 28 mobile dating apps, using mobile forensic tools. The dating app taxonomy can be used to inform future studies of dating and related apps, such as those from Android and iOS platforms.
Mobile technologies can be, and have been, exploited in terrorist activities. In this paper, we highlight the importance of mobile forensics in the investigation of such activities. Specifically, ...using a series of controlled experiments on Android and Windows devices, we demonstrate how mobile forensics techniques can be used to recover evidentiary artefacts from client devices. There are three simulation scenarios, namely: (1) information propagation, (2) information concealment and (3) communications. The experiments used three popular cloud apps (Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive), five communication apps (Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype and Viber), and two email apps (GMail and Microsoft Outlook). The evidential data was collected and analysed using mobile forensics and network packet analyser tools. The correlation of evidence artefacts would support to infer illegal use of mobile devices. This study also highlights the extent of acquired evidence between Android and Windows devices, in which Android presents more evidentiary value.

Nowadays, the mobile operating systems market (Android, IOS, Windows Phone …) continues to grow. It has become a real challenge for application vendors to provide versatile applications in this ...competitive market in a short time. The challenge is even greater if the application is planned for multiple platforms whose the operating systems uses different technologies, namely, IOS/Objective-C environment for the Phone and the IPad, Java SDK for Android, etc. This fragmentation makes mobile application development rather difficult and very expensive, hence the use of cross-platform development. To address the cross-platform development different approach exist, the choice was focused on the MDA approach whose principle is the elaboration of various UML models. By studying in detail various target platforms on the basis of a set of criteria and performing a model for each criterion, the aim of our research work is to elaborate a meta-model from UML models realized for each platform.
The term “mobile learning” (or “m-learning”) refers to using handheld phones to learn and wireless computing as a learning tool and connectivity technology. This paper presents and explores the ...latest mobile platform for teaching and studying programming basics. The M-Learning tool was created using a platform-independent approach to target the largest available number of learners while reducing development and maintenance time and effort. Since the code is completely shared across mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows Phone), students can use any smartphone to access the app. To make the programme responsive, scalable, and dynamic, and to provide students with personalised guidance, the core application is based on an analysis design development implementation and assessment (ADDIE) model implemented in the Xamarin framework. The application’s key features are depicted in a prototype. An experiment is carried out on BS students at a university to evaluate the efficacy of the generated application. A usefulness questionnaire is administered to an experimental community in order to determine students’ expectations of the developed mobile application’s usability. The findings of the experiment show that the application is considerably more successful than conventional learning in developing students’ online knowledge assessment abilities, with an impact size of 1.96. The findings add to the existing mobile learning literature by defining usability assessment features and offering a basis for designing platform-independent m-learning applications. The current findings are explored in terms of their implications for study and teaching practice.
Communication apps can be an important source of evidence in a forensic investigation (e.g., in the investigation of a drug trafficking or terrorism case where the communications apps were used by ...the accused persons during the transactions or planning activities). This study presents the first evidence‐based forensic taxonomy of Windows Phone communication apps, using an existing two‐dimensional Android forensic taxonomy as a baseline. Specifically, 30 Windows Phone communication apps, including Instant Messaging (IM) and Voice over IP (VoIP) apps, are examined. Artifacts extracted using physical acquisition are analyzed, and seven digital evidence objects of forensic interest are identified, namely: Call Log, Chats, Contacts, Locations, Installed Applications, SMSs and User Accounts. Findings from this study would help to facilitate timely and effective forensic investigations involving Windows Phone communication apps.
The aim of this paper is to employ the guidelines of Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Phone to analyze the usability compliance of free blood donation (BD) apps. An analysis process based on a ...systematic review protocol is used to select free BD apps. An assessment is conducted using a questionnaire composed of 13 questions concerning the compliance of free BD apps with Android, Blackberry, iOS and Windows Phone usability guidelines. A total of 133 free BD apps have been selected from the 188 BD apps identified. Around 63 % of the free BD apps selected have a good compliance with mobile OS usability recommendations. Around 72 % of Android, 57 % of Windows Phone, 33 % of iOS and 33 % of Blackberry BD apps have a high usability score. The aspect of BD app behavior should be improved along with some style components: the use of pictures to explain ideas and the adaptation of the app to both horizontal and vertical orientations. Structure patterns should also be used to improve the structure aspect of a BD app. Usability is a quality aspect that should be improved in current BD apps. Our study provides smartphone users with a list of usable free BD apps and BD app developers with recommendations.
The rising of the cloud computing and the generation of GIS cloud will promote the development mode of server and client into a new high tide, and with the popularity of intelligent mobile phones and ...plate computer, mobile will not only the development trend but also the trend of the development of IT, and then the development of intelligent mobile phone for the mobile GIS development will be the future GIS development of one of the main trend. So in our study, we considered how to explore the future wisdom campus mobile end GIS product, from this view, so we choose the system which is today's popular Windows Phone operating , and basing on the the wisdom campus, and design mobile Phone campus GIS system. Our research and development process choose the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 as development platform, we using c # language for development, and choose ArcGIS Server10 as GIS service server, design and develope the Windows Phone mobile Phone about the mobile Phone campus GIS system. The whole system mainly consists of campus news module, course arrangement module, map query module, my diary module, recent weather modules, the system will convenience users' campus life, which is also a very meaningful exploration and attempt for the intelligent campus.
We are immerse in a world that becomes more and more mobile every day, with ubiquitous connectivity and increasing demand for mobile services. Current mobile terminals support several access ...technologies, enabling users to gain connectivity in a plethora of scenarios and favoring their mobility. However, the management of network connectivity using multiple interfaces is still starting to be deployed. The lack of smart connectivity management in multi-interface devices forces applications to be explicitly aware of the variations in the connectivity state (changes in active interface, simultaneous access from several interfaces, etc.). In this paper, we analyze the present state of the connection management and handover capabilities in the three major mobile operating systems (OSes): Android, iOS and Windows. To this aim, we conduct a thorough experimental study on the connectivity management of each operating system, including several versions of the OS on different mobile terminals, analyzing the differences and similarities between them. Moreover, in order to assess how mobility is handled and how this can affect the final user, we perform an exhaustive experimental analysis on application behavior in intra- and inter-technology handover. Based on this experience, we identify open issues in the smartphone connectivity management policies and implementations, highlighting easy to deploy yet unimplemented improvements, as well as potential integration of mobility protocols.
