Decentrada (decentered) is an investigation into nuances of pathways, agency, choice and complexity in the graduate student journey. For Orasi, this work reflects the vibrancy of possibilities for ...learning that exist only in moments of decentering, where paths are changed, challenges are introduced, assumptions questioned and new meanings made. By revisiting a source of destabilization in her own educational journey she used several layers of paint, texture mediums, masking and the process of neurographica as metaphors to confront entanglements in my own academic trajectory, and the wayfinding through graduate studies that has been woven into her sense of self.
The unpredictable elements involved in a vehicular traffic system, like human interaction and weather, lead to a very complicated, high-dimensional, nonlinear dynamical system. Therefore, it is ...difficult to develop a mathematical or artificial intelligence model that describes the time evolution of traffic systems. All the while, the ever-increasing demands on transportation systems has left traffic agencies in dire need of a robust method for analyzing and forecasting traffic. Here we demonstrate how the Koopman mode decomposition can offer a model-free, data-driven approach for analyzing and forecasting traffic dynamics. By obtaining a decomposition of data sets collected by the Federal Highway Administration and the California Department of Transportation, we are able to reconstruct observed data, distinguish any growing or decaying patterns, and obtain a hierarchy of previously identified and never before identified spatiotemporal patterns. Furthermore, it is demonstrated how this methodology can be utilized to forecast highway network conditions.
With the fast development of smart grid, the power line mileage and power equipments get rapid growth. The contradiction between the large number of maintenance equipments and the small number of ...maintenance workers becomes increasingly prominent. Meanwhile, the traditional maintenance mode has the disadvantages of over or under maintenance, which will lead to the increasing failure risk of power transmission system. Faced with these issues, to enhance the intelligence and automation level of power line inspection, many researchers have devoted much effort to the research of automatic power line inspection and some state-of-the-art techniques about power line inspection are proposed to improve the inspection efficiency and quality, such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), image processing, deep architecture, and so on. In this article, we analyzed and summarized the state-of-the-art techniques on power line inspection to provide a valuable reference for the researchers engaged in the smart grid. First, the common inspection tasks on power line inspection are reviewed. Second, the existing inspection platforms are examined in this article. Also, the advantages and disadvantages of different platforms are analyzed accordingly. Third, faced with different inspection tasks, different inspection sensors are integrated into the inspection platforms for data collection. Therefore, the common sensors on inspection platforms are discussed. Finally, to realize automatic power line inspection, different inspection methods are proposed or improved, and these advanced inspection methods are surveyed and discussed.
Innovation is an intentionally introduced significant and positive change to an existent practice. In crafts, innovation is challenging because, by nature, crafts are based on traditions and ...collective knowledge; they involve practising something the way it has always been practiced. If anything changes, it is copied rapidly by other craftspeople. In this article, I explain innovation in traditional glove-knitting through the concept of transformation of the tradition, and I analyse the case using a method called technique-concept-utility-structure-material (TCUSM), which was introduced by Adhi Nugraha in 2010. According to this method, one must know the tradition thoroughly in order to make conscious and justifiable changes to it. One must compare and explain what is traditional and what is new in one's products. I combine this method with an artistic autoethnographic approach. Within my personal practice, the most significant change to the original involves combining and borrowing aesthetic elements from other traditional textiles or developing my own combinations of patterns and colours. First, I give a short overview of the history of embroidered gloves in Estonia, then demonstrate, with the help of explanations and photographs, contemporary gloves, made by me.
Abstract
Accurate quantification of pulmonary nodules can greatly assist the early diagnosis of lung cancer, enhancing patient survival possibilities. A number of nodule segmentation techniques, ...which either rely on a radiologist-provided 3-D volume of interest (VOI) or use the constant region of interests (ROIs) for all the slices, are proposed; however, these techniques can only investigate the presence of nodule voxels within the given VOI. Such approaches restrain the solutions to freely investigate the nodule presence outside the given VOI and also include the redundant structures (non-nodule) into VOI, which limits the segmentation accuracy. In this work, a novel semi-automated approach for 3-D segmentation of lung nodule in computerized tomography scans, has been proposed. The technique is segregated into two stages. In the first stage, a 2-D ROI containing the nodule is provided as an input to perform a patch-wise exploration along the axial axis using a novel adaptive ROI algorithm. This strategy enables the dynamic selection of the ROI in the surrounding slices to investigate the presence of nodules using a Deep Residual U-Net architecture. This stage provides the initial estimation of the nodule utilized to extract the VOI. In the second stage, the extracted VOI is further explored along the coronal and sagittal axes, in patchwise fashion, with Residual U-Nets. All the estimated masks are then fed into a consensus module to produce a final volumetric segmentation of the nodule. The algorithm is rigorously evaluated on LIDC–IDRI dataset, which is the largest publicly available dataset. The proposed approach achieved the average dice score of 87.5%, which is significantly higher than the existing state-of-the-art techniques.

•Hydrogen production from photosynthetic microalgae.•Biophotolysis and fermentation techniques narrated.•Genomic and metabolomic approach on hydrogen production discussed.•State of ...art techniques to enhance the hydrogen in microalgae capsuled.
Hydrogen (H2) is one of the renewable and sustainable energy since it reduces greenhouse gas emissions producing water in its purest form. However, the production of H2 from conventional thermochemical technologies needs a switchover to biological processes to avoid replenishment of nonrenewable energy reservoirs. This may include algae which switch over from oxygen to bioH2 production and simultaneously produce various renewable energy products like biomass, carbon storage products, biofuel, lipids and alcohol. On the offset, the selection of algae entrenched on its metabolic and genomic pathways to screen enzymes and genes enhancing the production of bioH2 inside algal cell is crucial. However, they can be an immense reservoir of bioH2 only if its pretreatment process is economized. The current review identifies the metabolic pathway, enzymes and genes involved for bioH2 production. The review also discusses the state of art techniques, advancements, challenges, and techno-economic aspects for sustainable bioH2 production.

Abstract
In this paper, the cell-free massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) network is affected by the pilot contamination phenomenon when a large number of users and a small number of ...available pilots exists, the quality of service (QoS) will deteriorate due to the low accuracy of the channel estimation because some of users will use the same pilot. Therefore, we address this problem by presenting two novel schemes of pilot assignment and pilot power control design based on the matching technique for the uplink of cell-free massive MIMO systems to maximize spectral efficiency. We first formulate an assignment optimization problem in order to find the best possible pilot sequence to be used by utilizing genetic algorithm (GA) and then propose a Hungarian matching algorithm to solve this formulated problem. Regarding the power control design, we formulate a minimum-weighted assignment problem to assign pilot power control coefficients to the estimated channel’s minimum mean-squared error by considering the access point (AP) selection. Then, we also propose the Hungarian algorithm to solve this problem. Simulation results show that our proposed schemes outperform the state-of-the-art techniques concerning both the pilot assignment and the pilot power control design by achieving a 15% improvement in the spectral efficiency. Finally, the computational complexity analysis is provided for the proposed schemes compared with the state-of-the-art techniques.
In his lecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Louis Pasteur discussed the application of science to the arts. Despite claiming to lack expertise, Pasteur provided a comprehensive overview of ...various scientific principles that could be applied to different artistic mediums. He touched on topics such as the viscosity of oil paints, the composition of limes, plasters, and mortars, and the physics and chemistry behind photography. Pasteur emphasized the importance of theory in artistic practice, but his lecture gradually became more technical and focused on statistics and anecdotes related to art conservation and public health. One notable anecdote involved Pasteur calculating the volume of air in a poorly ventilated lecture hall and speculating on the potential spread of infections. To illustrate his point, Pasteur concluded his lecture by demonstrating the gradual asphyxiation of a live pigeon under a bell jar.
