Automatic modulation recognition (AMR) plays an important role in modern wireless communication. In this letter, a novel framework for AMR is proposed. The ResNeXt network serves as the backbone, and ...four proposed adaptive attention mechanism modules are incorporated. The time-frequency representations of the received signals are utilized as the inputs of the proposed deep learning (DL) network, and a transfer learning strategy is adopted based on the pre-trained ResNeXt weakly supervised learning (WSL) model. The comparisons with several state-of-the-art techniques on the RadioML2016.10B and RadioML2018.01A datasets show that the proposed framework converges quickly and can achieve higher robustness and 2% to 8% higher accuracy than other state-of-the-art techniques.
This publication aims to clarify the relationships between material restoration and politics in Italian Renaissance art by focusing on the question of origin as a foothold for political, patrimonial, ...and cultural identity. Rather than reinstating the objects’ initial forms and meanings, restoration practices implied remodeling them according to new identity needs and thus transforming their material and aesthetic reality.
Deep learning (DL) enables the creation of computational models comprising multiple processing layers that learn data representations at multiple levels of abstraction. In the recent past, the use of ...deep learning has been proliferating, yielding promising results in applications across a growing number of fields, most notably in image processing, medical image analysis, data analysis, and bioinformatics. DL algorithms have also had a significant positive impact through yielding improvements in screening, recognition, segmentation, prediction, and classification applications across different domains of healthcare, such as those concerning the abdomen, cardiac, pathology, and retina. Given the extensive body of recent scientific contributions in this discipline, a comprehensive review of deep learning developments in the domain of diabetic retinopathy (DR) analysis, viz., screening, segmentation, prediction, classification, and validation, is presented here. A critical analysis of the relevant reported techniques is carried out, and the associated advantages and limitations highlighted, culminating in the identification of research gaps and future challenges that help to inform the research community to develop more efficient, robust, and accurate DL models for the various challenges in the monitoring and diagnosis of DR.
ABSTRACT
CHEOPS (CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite) is an ESA S-class mission that observes bright stars at high cadence from low-Earth orbit. The main aim of the mission is to characterize ...exoplanets that transit nearby stars using ultrahigh precision photometry. Here, we report the analysis of transits observed by CHEOPS during its Early Science observing programme for four well-known exoplanets: GJ 436 b, HD 106315 b, HD 97658 b, and GJ 1132 b. The analysis is done using pycheops, an open-source software package we have developed to easily and efficiently analyse CHEOPS light-curve data using state-of-the-art techniques that are fully described herein. We show that the precision of the transit parameters measured using CHEOPS is comparable to that from larger space telescopes such as Spitzer Space Telescope and Kepler. We use the updated planet parameters from our analysis to derive new constraints on the internal structure of these four exoplanets.
Cloud computing offer various services over the Internet based on pay-per-use concept. Therefore, many organizations have already adopted this system to attract the users with its desirable features. ...However, due to its design, makes it vulnerable to malicious attacks. This demands an Intrusion Detection System that can detect such attacks with high detection accuracy in cloud environment. This paper proposes a novel intrusion detection system that combines a fuzzy c means clustering (FCM) algorithm with support vector machine (SVM) to improve the accuracy of the detection system in cloud computing environment. The proposed system is implemented and compared with existing mechanisms. The NSL-KDD dataset is used for experiments. Based on performance evaluation and comparative analysis, the results obtained using this new hybrid mechanism (FCM–SVM) show that the proposed system can detect the anomalies with high detection accuracy and low false alarm rates over the existing techniques.
Successive drops of coloured ink mixed with surfactant are deposited onto a thin film of water to create marbling patterns in the Japanese art technique of Suminagashi. To understand the physics ...behind this and other applications where surfactant transports adsorbed passive matter at gas–liquid interfaces, we investigate the Lagrangian trajectories of material particles on the surface of a thin film of a confined viscous liquid under Marangoni-driven spreading by an insoluble surfactant. We study a model problem in which several deposits of exogenous surfactant simultaneously spread on a bounded rectangular surface containing a pre-existing endogenous surfactant. We derive Eulerian and Lagrangian formulations of the equations governing the Marangoni-driven surface flow. Both descriptions show how confinement can induce drift and flow reversal during spreading. The Lagrangian formulation captures trajectories without the need to calculate surfactant concentrations; however, concentrations can still be inferred from the Jacobian of the map from initial to current particle position. We explore a link between thin-film surfactant dynamics and optimal transport theory to find the approximate equilibrium locations of material particles for any given initial condition by solving a Monge–Ampère equation. We find that as the endogenous surfactant concentration $\delta$ vanishes, the equilibrium shapes of deposits using the Monge–Ampère approximation approach polygons with corners curving in a self-similar manner over lengths scaling as $\delta ^{1/2}$. We explore how Suminagashi patterns may be produced by using computationally efficient successive solutions of the Monge–Ampère equation.
The paper presents the results of the archaeological analysis of Late Bronze Age pottery making techniques, carried out on the potsherds from the Kalnik – Igrišče site. It is pottery from the last ...phase of the Late Bronze Age or the younger phase of the Urnfield culture. The paper discusses the trace evidence of the making of vessels, from building techniques, surface treatment and decoration, to the process of firing vessels. The results of the archaeological analysis show that the primary vessel making technique at the very end of the Bronze Age was based on the old traditions, already observed in the older phase of the Urnfield culture, but new and different practices have also been observed.
Recently, Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) has witnessed significant attention from both academia and industries in research and development, due to the growing number of applications for ...wide range of purposes including commercial, scientific, environmental and military. Some of the major applications include pollution monitoring, tactical surveillance, tsunami warnings and offshore exploration. Efficient communication among sensors in UWSNs is a challenging task due to the harsh environments and peculiar characteristics of UWSNs. Therefore, design of routing protocol for efficient communication among sensors and sink is one of the fundamental research themes in UWSNs. In this context, this paper proposes a location-free Reliable and Energy efficient Pressure-Based Routing (RE-PBR) protocol for UWSNs. RE-PBR considers three parameters including link quality, depth and residual energy for balancing energy consumption and reliable data delivery. Specifically, link quality is estimated using triangle metric method. A light weight information acquisition algorithm is developed for efficient knowledge discovery of the network. Multi-metric data forwarding algorithm is designed based on route cost calculation which utilizes residual energy and link quality. Simulations are carried out in NS-2 with Aqua-Sim package to evaluate the performance of RE-PBR. The performance of the proposed protocol is compared with the stat-of-the-art techniques: DBR and EEDBR. The comprehensive performance evaluation attests the benefit of RE-PBR as compared to the state-of-the-art techniques in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption, end-to-end delay and packet delivery ratio.
This publication focuses on the ideas of temporality in artistic practices. The analysis and reflection of various approaches enable the reader to delve into situation-specific settings and to ...contextualize and examine the question of how temporality initiates action and structures of perception, weaves itself into these structures, and thereby affects our bodies, our senses, our communication and shapes our presence.
