The main objective of this paper was to analyse the performance and efficiency development of the Slovakia's spa sector over the years 2013 - 2017 by applying the selected modern methods of business ...performance evaluation - the Economic Value Added, the Return On Net Assets, the Creditworthy Model, the Simplex Linear Programming Method and examine whether the application of these modern models provides an identical view of the financial performance of the sector surveyed. The intention of the paper was also to reveal statistically significant interconnections between the key EVA indicator and other modern methods. In the case of confirmation of a strong correlation we focused on evaluation the degree of identity with the results of above-mentioned applied methods. Despite the fact that these models evaluate performance on the basis of different input data and indicators, year 2015 was identically identified as the best-performing one, vice-versa, the worst financial performance of enterprises was recorded in 2016 within the application of all methods. At the significance level of p < 0.05, a statistically significant correlation between all pairs of the analysed methods was revealed. However, the strongest positive correlation with the Economic Value Added was confirmed in the case of Simplex Method of Linear Programming (t= 0.536842). This result was also confirmed by the identical assessment of the performance and efficiency development in individual years. Results of the study pointed to close interconnection between the dimension of performance (the EVA indicator) and efficiency (the Simplex Method of Linear Programming), which will be integrated into a new designed Enterprise Performance Model (EPM).
The paper addresses the impact of efficiency and results of solutions applied to transport goods on business efficiency indicators and their relation with the consequences of violating road traffic ...regulations, work and rest schedule of vehicle crews, weight and dimension restrictions imposed on trucks. The degree of dissociation between adopted systems to evaluate solutions is analyzed for various participants through the whole supply chain. As a result, a conflict of interests is found between businessmen owning goods, transport companies, consumers, and the society. The basic requirements to logistics in the form of three goals (faster, cheaper, better) develop behavioral models and patterns to take decisions leading to unsafe situations on roads and violations of various requirements to transportation. Following interests of businessmen assessing efficiency using criteria of ROA (return on assets) and the value for business owners results in similar decisions. The paper describes a model of developing ROA elements that are affected by criteria for making decisions during goods transportation and decisions provoking violation of various rules and requirements. This model can provide a basis for a quantitative analysis of the factors’ impact on logistics costs and on the value of assets. Model development options depend on the selected method of economic analysis. This model allows revealing primary causes for road accidents, based on reaching the goals to be met through decisions in logistics and goals underlying business efficiency. The approach can also be used in determining trends in motivation of transport operators in observing the requirements and improving transport laws.

The most important aspect of any business is efficiency. The goal is to achieve greater
outputs with lower inputs, or to use the available inputs to the maximum. In this paper, the use of DEA ...technique will be illustrated in case of measuring operation efficiency of the banking sector in Serbia, which currently has 33 banks. The efficiency of banks will be measured using two models with different input-output indicators, followed by a comparative analysis of the results using the BCG matrix. Banks are ranked according to their efficiency, and the similarities and differences that were observed in the study were commented.
In this paper, we propose a national competitiveness index using raw Institute of Management Development (IMD) data and try to overcome a shortcoming in the IMD's own ranking system. The IMD world ...competitiveness ranking considers 20 factors to define an index, but it does not consider the structural relationships among various factors. We utilise a structural equation model to derive a national competitiveness index that reflects such structural relationships. We then reveal new rankings of world competitiveness. In addition, we conducted a comparison analysis by economy level and identified improvement points in terms of measurement variables as well as latent variables. Our work is expected to promote a new era of national competitiveness rankings and indices.
Purpose
This study aims to determine the factors that encourage Indonesian banks to collaborate in the banking networks ATM Prima and ATM Bersama to achieve business efficiencies.
...Design/methodology/approach
A combination of methods is used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. Factor analysis and different testing technics are used. The data were obtained through interviews with managers of the banks involved in the two banking networks included in this study.
Findings
This research addresses ATM banking from three perspectives: banks that collaborate in ATM networks, banks that are joint ATM providers and banking customers that use ATMs. The results show that the banks in the study are more concerned about cost-effectiveness and cost-efficiencies in both the operational and investment aspects of supporting their ATM infrastructures. ATM providers place more importance on creating the most user-friendly, stable, wide-ranging and continuous system of services by collaborating with other banks in networks that provide ATM services. Customers put more importance on paying the minimum possible administration fees and the availability of specific banking services across a wide area.
Research limitations/implications
This research took place over a period of only one year. This limited the depth of the data collected. A longer study using data that cover more than one fiscal year would have generated more detailed information.
Practical implications
This study places importance on maximizing cost-efficiencies to keep bank fees low for customers. There are significant investment and operational costs associated with setting up and operating ATMs and of adding and managing additional ATMs. This is particularly so in an era when their use is on the decline owing to the increasing use of electronic banking.
Social implications
The social implications of ATM banking refer to the reduced administration fees customers pay as banks incur cost savings from collaborating on infrastructure and services. The availability of ATMs from specific banks could be replaced by one joint ATM machine that is situated in a specific area where electronic banking is not available. Banks’ customers tend to move to other banking services, and this means banks could lose a lot of their existing customers unless they can come up with unique services that are both accessible and user-friendly.
Originality/value
The originality of this research is that it recommends that some strategies Indonesian banks could use to become more efficient and effective, including forming ATM alliances to maximize efficiency and to achieve a competitive advantage.
This paper analyzes the latest trends in business reporting systems, with particular reference to the system of business reporting in the public sector. Bearing in mind the long-term, habitual mode ...of functioning of public enterprises, the introduction of business reporting is a major challenge. This will involve a change in mindset of all employees, especially managers, the new concept of operation of these enterprises. It is necessary to address the improvement of company performance and achievement of customer requirements, rather than focus on internal processes and procedures. This represents a great challenge and potential resistance to the introduction of business intelligence systems. The measurement results will become transparent and the decision will be made solely on the basis of the results. Analysis of the situation in the Serbian Tax Administration found that the current system of business reporting is not adequately addressed. This situation greatly complicates tax administration aimed to become a modern, client-oriented organization. Establishing a business reporting system will provide the basis for improving business efficiency and decision making in this institution.
The exchange of information, experiences, novelties and knowledge has accompanied the human community from the earliest history until nowadays. This is expected to continue in the future as well. ...Oral communication and personal contact between people is recently being substituted by the Internet. Its technological explosion in the late 20th century is changing the world radically, resulting in a process of powerful migration from the real to the virtual in all segments of people's life and work. The modern world nowadays cannot function without the Internet. It has become a dominant medium and the most significant communication channel. Internet technology is the basis for the emergence of social media, which provide a broad spectrum of opportunities for contemporary communication methods, and the exchange of data, documents, opinions, views, ideas and multimedia contents. Rapidly, in real time, reliably, simply, relatively safely and at a reasonable price. Modern social media are not only virtual communication communities, but rather an increasingly powerful tool for influencing the business efficiency of contemporary organizations. In addition to the conceptual determination of basic terminological categories, the authors of this paper consider: the types of social media and their characteristics, levels and phases of use of social media for business purposes, rules of optimizing social media, and the impact of social media on improving business efficiency. Bearing in mind that social media are nowadays used for marketing campaigns and activities to a significant extent, the paper places particular focus on the metrics used for measuring the effects of these activities.

The aim of this article is to analyse one of the most traditional SME-support measures, the allocation of guarantees by the Spanish guarantee system. A counterfactual approach is adopted to evaluate ...the result of a public policy. Three groups of companies that constitute the casuistry of long-term financial supports to companies (guarantees, guarantees and preferential funding, or just preferential funding), as well as another two control groups are studied. The results suggest that public support is relevant at economic, financial and business efficiency levels. The advantages can be observed mainly in the weakest companies, where the capacity to tackle projects is facilitated, although they do not manage to reduce their financial costs until they reach relative levels similar to those reached by companies not accessing the guarantee system.
