Taking into account the uncertainties of the factors of in-transit transportation cost, hub transshipment cost, hub construction cost, in-transit transportation time, hub transshipment time, and ...demand, this study uses triangular fuzzy numbers, expected value criteria, and distribution of credibility measure to minimise the total transportation cost of the hub-and-spoke road-rail combined transport (RRCT) network and the maximum transportation limit time between the origin and destination of the network. Firstly, a non-linear programming mathematical model is constructed for the regional hub-and-spoke RRCT network based on uncertain cost-time-demand. Then, an improved genetic algorithm is designed to obtain an optimized scheme. The algorithm uses genetic algorithm to search the global space, and uses two local search methods, i.e. shift and exchange, to search the local space. Finally, the RRCT network along the Yaan-Linzhi section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway is used as the research object to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the regional hub-and-spoke RRCT network model and the algorithm proposed in the study.
This paper presents a limited literature review of information for urban intermodal transportation. A systematically approach of the published literature on the area has been done, with particular ...focus on urban passenger intermodal terminals and public transport real-time information. The information obtained was collected and compiled by the following themes: i) Public Transport Information; ii) Urban Transport Interchanges; iii) Intermodal Transfer Services. This work highlights some important literature gaps and shows that, in this domain, there are several open interesting research opportunities.
New trends how to replace at least part of the road transport, and if possible transfer it to rail or water transport were initially met with incomprehension or inability to technologically and ...financially provision to ensure the development and testing of the system. This paper describes a new system for road-to-rail vehicles (semi-trailers and semi-trailers for vertical transhipment) for railways. This is a description of new technologies in the transhipment of these vehicles on rail waggons and their consecutive transportation by rail.
This article critically examines the admiralty jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria in relation to claims arising from combined transport shipping. It questions the rationale for the ...continued circumscription of the court's admiralty jurisdiction to activities on navigable waters based on English law pedigree. It argues that, in the present era of containerization and combined transport shipping, it has become imperative to unshackle Nigerian courts from English antecedents that limit the admiralty jurisdiction of the court to activities on the high seas. The article identifies extant national legislation, a continental instrument and recent judicial authorities that provide the basis for expanding the Federal High Court's admiralty jurisdiction to accommodate the adjudication of claims derived from combined transport shipping beyond the locale of the high seas.
One of the methods of achieving sustainable transport development and implementing the climate policy is to increase the importance of inland waterway transport in combined transport. European trends ...in the use of inland waterways for transport purposes should form a model for problem-solving efforts undertaken in the hinterlands of the Vistula estuary’s sea ports. The sea ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia have a very large growth potential but their development may be impeded in the near future by transport in the hinterland. A possible solution to this problem is envisioned by a document adopted by the Council of Ministers in June 2016, entitled “Assumptions for the plans for the development of inland waterways in Poland in the years 2016-2020 from the perspective of the year 2030”. This document is the first to identify the need to improve the navigating conditions on this waterway. But there are fears that this objective will not be achieved due to a very large number of priorities and extensive investment works.
Object Lessons is a series of short, beautifully designed books about the hidden lives of ordinary things. The shipping container is all around: whizzing by on the highway, trundling past on rails, ...unloading behind a big box store even as you shop there, clanking on the docks just out of sight…. 90% of the goods and materials that move around the globe do so in shipping containers. It is an absolutely ubiquitous object, even if most of us have no direct contact with it. But what is this thing? Where has it been, and where is it going? Craig Martin’s book illuminates the “development of containerization”—including design history, standardization, aesthetics, and a surprising speculative discussion of the futurity of shipping containers. Object Lessons is published in partnership with an essay series in the The Atlantic.
To increase the efficiency of combined transportation, the supporting structure of flat wagon has been created. A feature of the wagon is that the sections have a low center of gravity. This solution ...allows for the transportation of oversized cargo on a flat wagon within the established dimensions. The design of this flat wagon can be used for the carriage of goods not only by main lines, but also in rail and water traffic when transported by rail ferries. To ensure the safety of transportation of a flat wagon with containers on a railway ferry, their dynamic loading was determined. It is taken into account that a large-capacity container of 1AA standard size is placed on each section. The solution of the mathematical model was carried out in the MathCad software package. The resulting accelerations, as components of the dynamic load, were taken into account when determining the stability of a container on a flat wagon during transportation by a rail ferry. It was found that the stability of the container is ensured at tilt angles up to 25°. A computer simulation of the dynamic loading of the supporting structure of an articulated flat wagon with containers during transportation by a railway ferry has been carried out. The calculation is implemented in the CosmosWorks software package using the finite element method. The fields of distribution of accelerations relative to the supporting structure of the flat wagon and containers are determined. The maximum percentage of discrepancy between the results of mathematical and computer simulation does not exceed 11 %. The research carried out will contribute to the creation of innovative designs of flat wagons, as well as to increase the efficiency of the operation of combined transport in international traffic
Cai, G.; Yao, D.; Sun, J.; Jia, D., and Chen, J., 2015. Predict of high-speed train's safe operation based on fuzzy inference. Strategy of sea-rail combined transport greatly save logistics costs and ...promote economy of port. High efficiency integrated sea-rail transport depend on safety operation of railway. So, high-speed railway safety plays a prominent role for booming of future transport development. Since high-speed railways on moving is characterized by complexity, prediction technique about traffic safety in existence is impossible to predict reliably safety of high-speed rail. This paper puts forward a new forecasting method about high-speed train's safe operation based on analyzing the main factors of influencing high-speed railway's safe operation. The fuzzy logic model of forecast to high-speed railway's safe operation is established in this method which is based on building object set, factor set and judgment set. In addition, fuzzy assessment function is applied to judge safety of high-speed railway in real time and assessment indicators is offered. Coastal Economy and Development could be accelerated when fuzzy assessment function was introduced into coastal high-speed railway construction. Experimental results show that this method can effectively forecast safety of high-speed train on moving and provides an effective guarantee for it
Over the recent years the container feeder service is becomingan increasingly important element of containerisation. Thechanges in container flows caused by political changes in CentralEurope have ...resulted in a drain of a significant part of thistransport from the Adriatic to the North European ports. Theilztroduction of the container train Budapest - Rijeka, for theneeds of feeder service would mean a significant step towardsrevitalisation of the Rijeka transport route. With adequate government support, the Croatian sea-goingship operators will form the basic factor in the development ofcontainerisation and feeder service, and this will result in thereturnof the container transport to the ports of Rijeka and Place, thus at the same time improving the Croatian foreign trade exchangeand increasing the level of exploitation at the mentionedports, railway, agents, forwarding agents, and shipsowned by line ship operators.
