The modern educational environment is characterized by a number of global challenges and the emergence of a new paradigm of value orientations at the time of unlimited freedom of self-determination, ...multiculturalism, and multiple identity of the individual. All this escalate the problem of understanding the true, false and pseudo values. In the world of absolute uncertainty, instability, the importance of the character education competence of the teacher is increasing as the teacher is responsible for designing the students’ educational environment. In today's reality the effective development of the character education competence of a teacher, which is not limited only to the period of studies at a teacher university, is of utmost importance. The authors consider the development track of the teacher's competence in character education throughout the entire professional life cycle in the regional socio-pedagogical cluster. Experimental research has confirmed the need to update the formation of character education competence both for the teaching staff of a teacher university, who are responsible for organizing the professional character education, and for the future teachers who will come to school tomorrow. The authors suggest that the character education competence of a teacher begins its formation long before entering the teaching profession and is determined by the axiological content of the quasi-professional communities in which an individual is involved.
The purpose of this paper was to (1) examine moral judgment competency of a sample of 811 Chinese college students from a Southern university in mainland China with DIT-2; and (2) test whether ...gender, education, major, academic performance, and one-child policy have significant effect on the participants’ moral judgment competency. Results show that the participants score high in both Personal Interest schema and Postconventional schema, while low in Maintaining Norms schema. Gender and major have significant effect on participants’ moral judgment competency in China, while education level, academic performance and one-child family have no significant effect on their moral judgment competency. Reasons are discussed in the paper.
The standardized Patient Program (SPP) is a standard educational training method which provides the pre-clinical students a better clinical foundation by linking the realm of clinical medicine to ...basic sciences. It incorporates a modern simulation technique and enhances the ability of the students wherein they can practice, apply and learn the basics of patient encounter. The main objective of this study was to analyze the implementation and efficiency of the SPP in Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM).
A quasi-experimental "before-and-after" study design was conducted among the 3rd Semester (MD3) medical students at AUSOM. 24 students voluntarily participated in the study. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated after comparing the summative examination scores before and after implementation of the SPP (graded in 100 points system). Mean scores were calculated and a comparison of the change in scores was made, using a paired t-test in Stata (ÓStata corp).
The mean final summative clinical skills examination scores of the students before and after the introduction of the SPP were 78.46 ± 6.62 (SEM: 1.35, range: 89-70) and 86.54±6.41 (SEM: 1.31, range: 98-65), respectively. There was a statistically significant increment (t=5.5058, p=0.0001) in the scores of the students after the introduction of the SPP.
Introduction and implementation of SPP at AUSOM at preclinical years increased the overall students' performance in clinical skills. It is necessary that medical schools implement SPP early in preclinical years to strengthen learning and inoculate necessary clinical skills in medical students.

The competence and learning outcomes approach, which intends to improve effective performance of academic staff and students, is becoming dominant in today's higher education. This was quite ...different 15 years ago. This contribution aims to offer insight in the reforms initiated and implemented, by posing and answering the questions why the time was appropriate -- by identifying and analysing the underlying conditions -- and in what way the change was shaped -- by focusing on terminology required and approaches developed. Central here is the role the Tuning project -- launched in 2000-2001 -- played in this respect. The contribution starts with contextualising the situation in the 1990s: the recession and growing unemployment in many European countries on the one hand and the development of a global society and the challenges the higher educational sector faced at the other. It offers the background for initiating the Tuning project, and the discourse on which its approach is based. In particular, attention is given to choosing the concept of competences, distinguishing subject specific and general/generic ones, as an integrating approach of knowledge, understanding, skills, abilities and attitudes. The approach should serve as a means of integrating a number of main goals as part of the learning and teaching process: strengthening employability and preparing for citizenship besides personal development of the student as a basis for the required educational reform. Tuning's unique contribution is the alignment of this concept to learning outcomes statements as indicators of competence development and achievement and by relating both concepts to profiling of educational programmes.
Culture constitutes the environment in which a person develops and establishes relationships with others and with the world. It is through specific cultural aspects that suffering, and pain are manifested and communicated. Therefore, it is essential to consider culture in the context of health care. The present study aimed to present an integrative review carried out in the scientific literature published between 2009 and 2019 about the perspective of health and/or social assistance professionals regarding the care provided to immigrants. A total of 73 articles were selected as a result of research carried out in Portuguese, Spanish and English in five electronic databases (Scielo, PsycINFO, Virtual Health Library BVS, Web of Science and Scopus). The main results of the articles were organized into four categories for analysis: 1) barriers and facilitators in assisting immigrants and refugees, 2) strategies adopted by professionals in caring for immigrants, 3) organization of the health system and government incentives, and 4) sociopolitical issues that interfere in the service. It was evident that the quality of care does not depend only on the professional-immigrant relationship, since organizational and macro-political factors influence the possibilities of the care process. Faced with the barriers encountered, professionals created individual strategies and/or with their teams to qualify the services. The need to implement practices of cultural decentering in professional training in different areas and to develop the cultural competence of both professionals and health services stood out as the main recommendation of the analyzed studies.
