Coffee, whose homeland is Africa, was introduced to Europe by Turks. The preparation of "Turkish coffee", which has a historical, political, social, and cultural background as the most important ...drink of Turkish culture, has been the subject of proverbs, idioms, folk riddles, folk songs, paintings and poems along with all its abstract and concrete cultural elements and its tools, equipment, presentation and rituals. Turkish coffee is an important means of socialization and cultural communication as a social beverage in our country. Turkish coffee served with a glass of water in circles of friends on special occasions, religious holidays, neighboring visits convey many meanings.
Turkish coffee has created a tradition and culture in our country, which different ethnic, religious, social, and cultural groups have agreed upon. As a cultural heritage, Turkish coffee is an important issue to address sociologically. Therefore, to understand and question the social, historical, and cultural change of Turkish coffee culture and tradition from the past to the present, the subject was discussed from a sociological point of view using the "historical and comparative method". In this context, the culture and tradition of Turkish coffee have been dealt with in a multidisciplinary, multidimensional and eclectic way in a historical, cultural and social context; it is also hoped that it will contribute to further studies on this issue. As a result of the study, it was seen that the culture and tradition of Turkish coffee, which has a sociological, artistic, political, economic, historical, and cultural value and has a 500-year-old culture and tradition that has not been “invented” in the recent past, depending on a certain time, geography and history, will not disappear easily.
William Moorcroft (1872-1945) was one of the most celebrated potters of the early twentieth century. His career extended from the Arts and Crafts movement of the late Victorian age to the Austerity ...aesthetics of the Second World War. Rejecting mass production and patronised by Royalty, Moorcroft’s work was a synthesis of studio and factory, art and industry. He considered it his vocation to create an everyday art, both functional and decorative, affordable by more than a privileged few: ‘If only the people in the world would concentrate upon making all things beautiful, and if all people concentrated on developing the arts of Peace, what a world it might be,’ he wrote in a letter to his daughter in 1930. 'William Moorcroft, Potter: Individuality by Design' is a pioneering study by Jonathan Mallinson, Emeritus Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford. It follows the career of William Moorcroft through a wealth of private papers, letters and diaries, business correspondence and published reviews in newspapers, trade magazines and art journals. Richly illustrated with examples of his pottery, it explores what lay behind the unique impact of work sought by museums and treasured in homes the world over. The book examines an artist’s very individual response to the turbulent half century in which he worked. It will appeal to both specialists and general readers with an interest in pottery, the decorative arts, and the cultural history of the times.

Professionals and Marginals in Slavic and Jewish Cultural Traditions is the annual publication of the Slavic & Jewish Cultures: Dialogue, Similarities, Differences’s project for 2022. It includes ...papers from the international conference of the same name held in Moscow on December 1–3, 2021. The book includes twelve articles by Russian and Israeli scholars who work on the social and cultural role of professionals and marginals in various ethno-confessional traditions. The question of the perception of professionals in culture falls under the opposition “one’s own/another’s,” where belonging to “one’s own” or a “foreign community or class” becomes a defining marker. Traditionally, “social strangers,” to which representatives of various professions belong, were assigned a special role in calendar, magical, and occasional rites. Thus, professionals and social marginals were not considered outcasts: society assigned them a particular place and role, delegating special cultural functions to them. Like previous publications in this series, Professionals and Marginals in Slavic and Jewish Cultural Traditions is notable for the large amount of field and archival material that it makes publically available for the first time.
