The General Educational Development (GED) degree is designed to be a credential equivalent to the high school diploma. However, growing evidence indicates that GED recipients have worse outcomes than ...high school graduates. Such findings raise the question: is the GED socially equivalent to the high school diploma? Although educational assortative mating patterns have long been used as a barometer of the social distance across educational groups, there has not been a study that has addressed this question by examining the marital sorting patterns of GED recipients. Using log-linear models, our study shows that the odds of intermarriage between GED recipients and high school graduates resemble those between GED recipients and those without a secondary degree. Racial/ethnic minorities had greater difficulty crossing the GED/high school graduate boundary when they married. Our findings detract from the purported view that the GED degree is equivalent to a traditional high school diploma.
In 2001, 2004, 2007, 2011, and 2015, Brazil provided an expansion in the offer of places for higher education through the programs Student Financing Fund (Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil Fies), ...University for All Program (Progra-ma Universidade para Todos Prouni) and Support Program for Restructuring and Expansion Plans of Federal Universities (Programa de Apoio a Planos de Rees truturação e Expansão das Universidades Federais Reuni). As a result, this article aims to analyze the effect that this proportion of higher education graduates had on the income of individuals with secondary education. From the microdata of the National Survey by Household Sample (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílio Pnad) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística IBGE) for the years 2001, 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2015, the theoretical and empirical basis of the Mincerian equation was ap-plied in the estimations. The results show that investing in higher education brings high rates of returns for all years studied, while investing up to high school showed in creasingly declining returns, with a negative variation of 87,8% between 2001 and 2015. The differences in income between high school and higher education graduates are possibly correlated to a greater demand for more skilled workers in the labor market.

Nursing education is crucial in the achievement of The United Nations 2015 Sustainable Development Goal 3 that aims to “ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all ages”. Zimbabwe produces ...diploma and degree graduates from the available education programs in the country. The differences in the diploma and degree education program include the curricula, program funding, quality assurance processes, personnel delivering the programs, student exchange programs and partnerships. Graduates from both programs are not required to have licensure examinations to test their competency before practising. The diploma program has failed to produce graduates who are critical thinkers due to the shallow nature of the learning curriculum. Additionally, the graduates are not involved in strategic decision making in the profession. In the interest of quality and patient safety, it would be appropriate to phase out the diploma program and adopt the baccalaureate nursing degree.

The rapid propagation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the East and Southeast Asian region, together with the continuing globalisation of education, has generated implementational ...opportunities and challenges for teachers within the IB network of schools. Based on semi-structured interviews with teachers and school leaders across 15 IB Diploma Programme (DP) schools within the three milieus of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, the study explored how DP's expansion fuelled ambiguities and inconsistencies in programme policy, which impacted on professional cultures and assessments. The analysis highlights the overreliance on the voluntary contribution of teachers and external examiners in supporting professional development and assessments as well as the connection of assessments to anxiety and dissonance in teachers.
