EdD programs affiliated with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate encourage dissertations in practice (DiPs) focused on equity, social justice, and transformative practice. Conversations ...in our program revealed surface-level or late-stage social justice connections in our students’ DiPs. Therefore, inspired by an existing framework that aimed at empowering EdD-activists, and needing more data from our own program, we formed a committee to design a program-specific EdD-activism framework. Through surveys, structured discussion, and other sources of qualitative data, an EdD-activism definition emerged that informed a program-wide equity statement and catalyzed changes in our practice as educators. This essay presents our process, applications of our work, and our next steps.
The supervision of master’s students at the dissertation stage of their taught programme is generally considered to be one of the privileges of an academic in higher education (Bacwayo, Nampala and ...Oteyo, 2017). Of concern to those who are less experienced or new to the supervisory role is knowing the best way to effectively support their supervisees, particularly at the write-up stage. This opinion piece focuses on the ‘discussion’, an important chapter which typically provokes ‘fear, uncertainty and doubt’ (Mewburn, 2016) in the minds of taught master’s students as they wrestle with its construction. I argue that supervisors can alleviate some of their supervisees’ anxieties by introducing them to the SCE model – Support, Challenge and Extend – which I have developed and have shared with taught master’s students in England for a number of years. Designed to purposefully target key chapter content, I aim to show readers how this simple yet useful model effectively encourages taught master’s students to establish and knit connections between their review of literature chapter and findings chapter, ‘comparing and contrasting the study results with those of other relevant studies’ (Bavdekar, 2015, p.40) with reasoning. Extracts from taught master’s dissertations (from the academic discipline of education) are offered by way of illustrating the value of the SCE model for supervisors to help their students avoid making common mistakes in their writing, thus generating a stimulating discussion about what is known (literature) and what is now known (findings) in the supervisee’s chosen area of study.
The article carries out a theoretical analysis of modern researches related to the professional training of specialists in the economic field with the aim of identifying gaps in the research field of ...the identified problem – professional training of specialists in the circular economy. On the basis of the results of the theoretical analysis of scientific studies of the training of economists in Ukraine, we will summarize the problems of these works. The problem can be divided into 4 blocks of topics, each of which has its own subtopics: Formation of professional competencies of future economists – 1) formation of abilities and skills; 2) formation of professional competences by various means. Organizational and methodical (pedagogical) principles – 1) organizational and pedagogical principles; 2) didactic or pedagogical conditions; 3) theoretical and methodological aspects; 4) method of development of professional qualities. Training of future economists in Ukraine – 1) training of a certain category of economists; 2) preparation for a certain type of activity; 2) means of improving the quality of professional training; 3) use of ICT in the professional activities of economists; 5) distance learning. means of improving the quality of professional training. Foreign experience of training future economists – the Republic of Poland, Germany, Great Britain and the USA. It is shown that the foreign experience of training specialists in the economic field in the context of modern requirements of the global economic space and the emergence of new economic specialties is not studied enough. This applies, in particular, to the professional training of specialists in the circular economy, who should play an important role in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
The aim of this study was to classify the results of the dissertation, describe the research method, and present the final findings. The research method used descriptive analysis with the main ...dissertation data for 2012–2022, using the Milles and Huberman model analysis technique. The research result was that the focus of the dissertation study spread to ulum al-lughah and maharah al-lughah; however, it swelled to the development of teaching materials. The dissertation was written using qualitative and quantitative research models, with the type of R&D development model adapted by Borg and Gall as the majority. The final dissertation formulation looked at the characteristics of the teaching materials in each approach, theory, and frame used. For the feasibility of teaching material products at a feasible level and effectively improving language skills and knowledge. From the results of the assessment, there was no expert validation, which showed low results, and the effectiveness test failed.
This study identified emergent themes from the interview data of at-risk-for-completion doctoral candidates (N = 13; 59%), from a diverse demographic, who participated in a successful dissertation ...completion intervention program. The findings revealed four major themes including extrinsic factors, socioemotional, formal structures of the program, and personal development. The findings highlight the need for conscious processes used by vital leaders to develop program design in four key areas of leadership within a framework of open vital systems. Vital leadership acts as proxy agents to influence development of formal structures in the university leading to equity in educational opportunity for all students. Conclusions and parsimonious explicit implications are provided for doctoral program redesign focused on improving graduate student retention and completion rates for diverse student populations.
Clathrate hydrates have steadily emerged as an important field in the areas of flow assurance, energy storage and resource, and environment. To better understand the role of hydrates in all of these ...areas, knowledge developed in laboratory experiments must be effectively transferred to address the challenges related to hydrate formation, dissociation, agglomeration, and stability. This paper highlights the recent hydrate literature focusing on the thermodynamics, kinetics, structural properties, particle properties, rheological properties, and molecular mechanisms of formation. The foundation for continued understanding and development of hydrates in engineering practice will rely on laboratory measurements utilizing traditional and innovative tools capable of probing time-dependent and time-independent properties.
