The absorption spectrum of deuterated nitrous acid DONO in the region from 2350 to 3000

trans-DONO and 741

trans- and
cis-DONO using non-linear least-squares calculations. Synthetic spectra calculated using the new rovibrational constants obtained for both species reproduce the observed spectra very well. In addition, the infrared transitions of this study were used, together with previously published pure rotational transitions, to determine improved rotational and centrifugal distortion constants of the ground states of
trans- and
cis-DONO.
This book decodes the ambivalence of gift-giving. It examines its socio- ethical and integrative potential. Following a short recollection of contemporary gift-giving, its motives, occasions and its ...rules, the reader is invited to travel back in time and space examining ?sacrifice?, ?food- sharing?, and ?gift giving? as those basic institutions upon which symbolic orders of ?traditional? society rely. The historical invention of hospitality is considered and paves the way to an analysis of the anthropology of giving. Berking goes on to explore the transition from traditional society to the market, self interest form. He questions the view that our societies are dominated by individualism and explores the contemporary interplay between self interest and the common good.
The word and its sound-echoes play a primary role in the diplomatic communication. In the embassies the words referred perform a function not merely linguistic but they have to be interpreted at ...various levels ; it’s therefore necessary for a successful communication that all participants at the diplomatic action share a formal repertory – made up of sounds, signs, gestures and gift. Sometimes this prerequisite fails, due to, for example, to the lack of spatial and/or cultural contiguity among the actors of the process and occurs an ineffective communication ; it happens in the two cases here analyzed and drawn from the Histories of Herodotus : the embassy of Cambyses to the Ethiopians, and that of Darius I to the Scythian king Idantirsus.

Arguing with Anthropology is a fresh and wholly original guide to key elements in anthropology, which teaches the ability to think, write and argue critically. Using the classic 'question of the ...gift' as a master-issue for discussion, and drawing on a rich variety of Pacific and global ethnography, it provides a unique course in methods, aims, knowledge, and understanding. The book's highly original hypothetical approach takes gift-theory - the science of obligation and reciprocity - as the paradigm for a virtual enquiry which explores how the anthropological discipline has evolved historically, how it is applied in practice and how it can be argued with critically. By asking students to participate in projected situations and dilemmas, and in arguments about the form and nature of enquiry, it offers working practice of dealing with the obstacles and choices involved in anthropological study. * From an expert teacher whose methods are tried and tested * Comprehensive and fun course ideal for intermediate-level students * Clearly defines the functions of anthropology, and its key theories and arguments * Effectively teaches core study skills for exam success and progressive learning.
This study partially clarified the contents and daily use of the palace garden of Reizei Tominokoji-dono residence during the mid-Kamakura period. The study method was a literature review using “The ...Dairy of Nakatsukasa no Naishi” with a focus on descriptions of the garden and use of the garden in the daily life of Emperor Fushimi, etc. It was found from this study that the basic structure of the garden of Reizei Tominokoji-dono residence was a basic Shinden-zukuri garden, where yarimizu (artificial stream in a garden) was running from the northeast side into a pond on the south side. The plants in the garden were a cherry tree (Sakon no Sakura) on the southeast side in front of the Shinden and a mandarin orange tree (Ukon no Tachibana) on the southwest side. In the north garden, Henon bamboo existed. The daily casual usage of the garden was entertainment including moon viewing, boating, viewing of the sky and scenery of the garden, composing poem and playing music. The garden and sky were mostly viewed from each room of the buildings and boats. The views of the garden and sky were not just beautiful but often cheerless. The members including Emperor Fushimi, who were all well-versed in creating Japanese poem, appreciated the garden view by finding beauty in various natural phenomena and shared the feeling among the members.
