The small traders in traditional markets have become a unique phenomenon. In actualizing the Fiqh of Economy, they should be empowered. However, in socio-economic facts, small traders often face ...difficulties in obtaining fund assistance from formal financial institutions. This qualitative study reveals the role of the Economic Fiqh actualization in empowering small traders in the era of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). They still face the classic problem i.e. limited access to capital. The credit distribution from conventional financial institutions should have been accessible for small traders to increase capital. However, in fact, it is not that easy due to lack of collateral and less elastic administrative management. Interestingly, amid the unfortunate situation, Sharia Microfinance Institutions (SMI) provide capital access for small traders. SMI transforms the existing system by providing easy access without collateral and elastic administration. Since 2015, Indonesia has entered the AEC committed to realizing economic equality in the ASEAN region by prioritizing the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector. With easy access to capital, it will encourage people’s welfare and increase the economic growth of the community.Keberadaan pedagang kecil di dalam pasar tradisional menjadi fenomena unik. Secara aktualisasi fiqih ekonomi pedagang kecil mestinya harus diberdayakan. Namun, dalam fakta sosial-ekonomi, pedagang kecil kerap kali kesulitan mendapatkan bantuan modal dari lembaga keuangan formal. Penelitian kualitatif ini, mengungkapkan peran aktualisasi fiqih ekonomi dalam pemberdayaan ekonomi pedagang kecil di era Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA). Pedagang kecil masih menghadapi masalah klasik yaitu keterbatasan akses permodalan. Penyaluran kredit dari lembaga keuangan konvensional, yang mestinya dapat diakses pedagang kecil untuk menambah modal, namun tak bisa diakses karena ketiadaan agunan dan pengelolaan administrasi yang kurang elastis. Menariknya, di tengah persoalan yang menghimpit para pedagang kecil, Lembaga Keuangan Mikro Syariah (LKMS) memberi akses pedagang kecil untuk mendapatkan modal. LKMS mentransformasi sistem yang ada, yaitu dengan memberikan kemudahan akses tanpa jaminan dan administrasi yang elastis. Sejak 2015, Indonesia telah memasuki MEA yang berkomitmen untuk mewujudkan pemerataan ekonomi di kawasan regional ASEAN dengan mengutamakan sektor Usaha Mikro Kecil Menengah (UMKM). Dengan akses permodalan yang mudah akan mendorong kesejahteraan masyarakat dan meningkatkan pertumbuhan ekonomi masyarakat.
The purpose of this article is to present a discussion on women's rights and women's empowerment, reflecting on the obstacles to the fight against gender inequality in Brazilian society. Although ...advances in the achievement of women's rights are important, this study emphasizes that in contexts of advancement of conservative thinking and the difficulty in dismantling certain elements typical of culture and of discriminatory and patriarchal behaviors, ther are obstacles that promote morosity in the fight against gender inequality in Brazil. Theoretically, the study is based on the feminist authors Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler, Heleieth Saffioti, Srilatha Batliwala, among others. From a methodological point of view, this work was based on bibliographic, exploratory and documentary research.

The study illuminates the lessons and insights that Vietnam's coffee sector can provide to the global coffee community by investigating the nexus of coffee culture, tourism, and economic empowerment. Vietnam's coffee sector, which combines tradition and innovation, is a fascinating illustration of how coffee can drive economic progress, promote sustainability, and enrich cultural experiences. Vietnam's success has far-reaching ramifications for other coffee-producing countries, providing significant lessons on how to use coffee tourism, improve sustainability standards, and promote economic empowerment for local populations.
Purpose: The first aim of this article is to assess the influence of transformational leadership and some selected psychological constructs on employee’s intention to quit an organisation. The second ...aim is to develop and validate a conceptual model that depicts the linear relationships amongst the constructs of this study (i.e. transformational leadership, psychological contract violation, psychological empowerment, affective commitment and intention to quit).Design/methodology/approach: The article employs correlational research method using quantitative research strategy. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was adopted in analysing data collected from 232 conveniently sampled respondents from various organisations in South Africa. The partial least square based SEM methodology was used to test the relationships amongst the various constructs of the study.Findings/results: Transformational leadership showed indirect influence on intention to quit through psychological contract violation, psychological empowerment and affective organisational commitment.Practical implications: The conceptual model of this study provides a useful psychological framework that guide organisations in the formulation and implementation of retention policies and practices. Further, it is imperative for organisations to encourage the adoption of transformational leadership at all levels of management. This is in consideration of the significant influences that this leadership behaviour exerts on individual employee’s intention to quit an organisation.Originality/value: An extensive search of instant literature did not produce evidence of an existing literature regarding the relationship between transformational leadership and psychological contract violation as we found in this article. This is a theoretical contribution to the field of organisation psychology. Furthermore, the article developed a unique and a empirically validated model that explained the direction and strength of relationships amongst selected antecedents of intention to quit. This practical contribution provides managers with both pragmatic insights and theoretical framework in formulating an effective retention strategy for their organisations.
Despite evidence of short-term effectiveness of ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), both positive and negative patient reports are common. However, research examining these polarized accounts has not ...adequately elucidated why such divergences occur. We thus sought to examine opposing patient narratives to better understand underlying meanings. Eighteen interviews were conducted with U.K.-based people who had experienced the treatment. Our analysis revealed that the quality of relations with staff, ECT artifacts (e.g., the ECT suite), and perceived outcomes all play a role in divergent accounts. Positive reflections on ECT emerged alongside narratives of trust in staff, comfort with ECT, and perception of sufficient personal control. Conversely, where negative evaluations of ECT predominated, there was anger associated with a lack of control, a belief that ECT made little sense, and was linked to past abuses and/or the unacceptability of side effects. We discuss the implications of our findings for professionals.
Vietnam is one of the major rice-producing countries in Asia, and since 1989 it has been a rice-exporting country. However, poor rice-farming households that depend primarily upon their own labor for ...farming face significant constraints on production that push members to migrate. Out-migration could have effects on agricultural production and household welfare. This study was conducted to draw correlations across migration, livelihoods, farming outcomes, and gender roles to derive gender-responsive policy recommendations for action in rice-producing villages of the Mekong Delta in the south and Red River Delta in the north. Results revealed that labor out-migration was highest in the rainfed villages in the south where the poor are located. Remittances comprised signifi cant proportions of total household income, often more important than rice income, as was the case in the north. The effects of out-migration on family members left behind, particularly women, depend on the characteristics of the migrant, the duration of absence of the migrant, use of remittances, and women's access to productive resources. The findings of this study have far-reaching implications for gender-responsive research and extension programs dealing with ricebased farming systems in Vietnam and other Asian countries that facelabor shortages due to out-migration from rural areas.

DoelHet verkennen van de ervaren effecten van het youth empowerment programma (YEP) Grote Broer op (empowerment van) de deelnemers.MethodeEen verkennend kwalitatief onderzoek waarbij gebruik werd ...gemaakt van acht semigestructureerde individuele interviews en twee open groepsinterviews, met in totaal tien deelnemers binnen twee wijken van Breda. De topiclist voor de individuele interviews werd samengesteld aan de hand van de levensgebieden waarbinnen empowerment tot uiting kan komen. De data zijn met een combinatie van deductieve en inductieve analyse gestructureerd en gecodeerd.ResultatenDe respondenten (deelnemers van Grote Broer) ervaren voornamelijk effecten op de volgende levensgebieden: sociale contacten en zingeving/burgerschap/persoonlijke levensstijl. Er komen enkele effecten naar voren op de levensgebieden dag- en vrijetijdsbesteding, opleiding/beroep/werk, gezondheid en woon- en leefomgeving. Op het levensgebied economische zelfstandigheid/financiële situatie komen vrijwel geen effecten naar voren.ConclusieIn het algemeen werden de effecten van Grote Broer positief beoordeeld door de geïnterviewde deelnemers. Jongeren lijken hiermee in relatief korte tijd een groei in persoonlijke ontwikkeling door te maken. De positieve uitkomsten van dit onderzoek geven een basis aan (kwantitatief) vervolgonderzoek.
The concept of empowerment is hard to miss in the field of social work, (health)care and welfare. Here, empowerment seems to stand for the autonomy and competence of the individual, who learns to ...make a positive contribution to society. In this book, Richard de Brabander traces the evolution of the notion of empowerment: whereas its roots can be found in the civil rights movement and its fight against oppression and injustice, nowadays the term is mostly used in strategies to make people adapt to dominant norms. While it should motivate us to resist patterns of exclusion and to create new ways of living, today that meaning seems to have turned into its opposite.
In politieke discussies en beleid op het gebied van sociaal werk, zorg en welzijn vliegt de term empowerment je al snel om de oren. Empowerment staat dan voor het versterken van de kracht van het individu, dat zich positief leert inzetten in de maatschappij. In dit boek volgt Richard de Brabander de ontwikkeling van het begrip empowerment: hoe het zijn wortels vindt in de strijd tegen onrecht en onderdrukking, maar vandaag de dag lijkt omgeslagen in het tegendeel daarvan. Empowerment wordt veelal gebruikt om mensen zich te laten aanpassen aan de heersende normen, terwijl het juist zou moeten aanzetten tot verzet, kritiek en nieuwe manieren van leven.
Samenvatting
Mannelijke kankerpatiënten kunnen wat betreft mondigheid als ‘een totaal andere populatie’ worden beschouwd als vrouwelijke kankerpatiënten. Daarom is onder urologen onderzoek gedaan ...naar de mondigheid van een mannelijke patiëntgroep, namelijk prostaatkankerpatiënten. Een tweede reden voor dit onderzoek was van praktische aard. Op basis van de onderzoeksresultaten kan een betere ingeschatting worden gemaakt van de communicatieve kenmerken van de doelgroep, en een meer patiëntgericht gesprek en een beter gespreksklimaat tussen arts en patiënt worden gecreëerd, welke kunnen leiden tot een adequatere behandeling. Uit de interviews met urologen blijkt dat prostaatkankerpatiënten mondig zijn en dat hun mondigheid is toegenomen. Dit blijkt uit de gedragsuitingen: ‘om een second opinion vragen’, ‘informatieve vragen stellen’, ‘wensen uitspreken’, ‘aangeven wat de voorkeursbehandeling is’, ‘consumentisme’ en ‘claimend gedrag’. Daarnaast blijkt de toegenomen mondigheid effect te hebben op zowel de arts-patiëntcommunicatie als het behandelproces.
De Europese Unie wordt wel vergeleken met een olifant: groot, wat onhandig en vreedzaam. Onderzoek naar de Europese Unie is te lang gedomineerd geweest door de institutionele en procedurele preoccupaties van de Politieke Wetenschappen, terwijl de vraagstukken waar het in toenemende mate om gaat, ook in de internationale politiek van de Unie, om een uitdrukkelijk geesteswetenschappelijke benadering vragen: identiteit, cultuur, legitimiteit en normativiteit.
