Historically, both governmental and private sectors have significantly underinvested in the agriculture industry. Increasing agricultural and food system investments is necessary to enhance food ...security and nutrition, reduce poverty, and adapt to climate change. To achieve long-term benefits, it is crucial to ensure not only that more investments are made, but also that these investments are responsible. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a literature review of financial sustainability and ethical investing in the agriculture industry. The findings indicate that the academic community has begun to focus on these concerns in recent years. Specifically, issues concerning finance in developing nations and the management of irrigation systems are attracting attention. This paper’s goal is to encourage more financial institutions, financial services managers, policymakers, and universities to participate in sustainable development projects in the financial services sector.
Currently, the market environment contains many factors influencing the enterprise’s competitiveness. Instability, the unpredictability of events, and insufficiently effective functioning of market ...mechanisms alter the management focus and processes engaged in an enterprise’s functioning. Some of them are intensive in terms of required resources and finance. Such a dynamic situation requires the enterprise management to build innovative solutions to flexibly respond and timely adapt to change. Therefore, this study aims to develop theoretical and applied approaches to determining the level of managerial and technological maturity of the basic set of technologies implemented in enterprises. In the context of this issue’s development and aiming to achieve the purpose, the study proposed a model approach where the introduction of individual technologies allows combining the rules for determining the enterprise’s management and the technological maturity level, i.e., its readiness for such changes. The construction of the model was based on the analysis and calculation of statistical data from four groups of technologies (corporate, industrial, decision support, and information technologies, which are divided into subclasses) and based on the theory of dynamic innovation development. The results were tested at seven food industry enterprises in Ukraine. Based on the study, the actual level of managerial and technological maturity of enterprises was determined, creating one complex set of technologies that depend on the level and structural changes in management and the level of technological maturity of enterprises. It can be used as a typical model for differently sized enterprises representing various industries.
This paper examines relationship marketing through the views of agri-food enterprises during COVID-19 using the commitment-trust theory as a framework. For this purpose, a primary research was ...conducted in 266 Greek agri-food enterprises at all stages of the agri-food sector and its activities to investigate relationship marketing in times of crisis. Through a confirmatory structural equation model (SEM), compatible with the commitment-trust theory, the results show that relationship termination costs explain the relationship commitment while communication explains trust. Moreover, there is an indirect effect of shared values on cooperation through trust. It is important to note that despite the COVID-19 crisis, there is no effect of uncertainty on trust. The above outcomes shed light on agri-food enterprises and relationship marketing in periods of crisis. With this knowledge, this paper provides recommendations to agri-food enterprises to focus on cooperation and shared values rather than being dominated by uncertainty.
The main goal of this study was to analyze the relationship between competitive intelligence (CI) and strategic decision-making and its six aspects such as quality, agility, flexibility, integration, ...effectiveness and efficiency in small and medium-sized food enterprises in Iran. This was an empirical study in which we searched to prove that competitive intelligence elevates the process of managing and making important decisions to a higher level. In this study, a conceptual model was developed to demonstrate the effect of CI on strategic decisions. The statistical population estimated at 90 senior managers from top small and medium-sized food enterprises in Iran, and based on the Cochran formula, the sample of this research included 73 managers of the SMEs in Iran food industry We used factor loading, path analysis, t-value, and Probability value (p-value) to analyze the data. The study's results indicated that CI could help with strategic decisions and significantly affect considered strategic decision's sides. Based on the t-value’s findings, CI had the most impact on the quality, flexibility, and effectiveness of the strategic decision-making, 15.139, 12.868, and 11.641, respectively. Therefore, CI acts as a support system to develop strategic decisions.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted shortfalls in the U.S. food system, exposing how regulatory processes shape access to the market. This paper builds on ongoing research following the impact of ...shut-down orders on alcohol retail via small restaurants and breweries in Arizona and examines the impacts of regulatory shifts on the ability of these food enterprises to pivot. We highlight how the concept of the pivot creates expectations of individual businesses ability to be resilient to shocks. Responses within Arizona to COVID-19 induced systemic failures, demonstrate that bottom-up pivots from small businesses can creatively and quickly meet local community needs. However, those efforts were stymied by state government and top-down approaches that proved incapable of pivoting to meet local needs. Through this case study, we highlight the need and opportunity for further examination of the interplay between regulatory agencies and small businesses in times of crisis. We invite others into the work of creating guidelines for pivoting that facilitate bottom-up and top-down collaboration while ensuring the voice and agency of different players.

The paper investigates the implementation of the HACCP system (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) in the restaurant business. Restaurant facilities produce not only culinary products, but ...also a variety of bakery, flour confectionery and confectionery products, which leads to an increase in the used raw materials and, accordingly, an increase in a variety of technological processes for processing these raw materials. Restaurant business establishments include restaurants, pastry shops, cafes, bars, snack bars, canteens, buffets, kiosks and other fast food and drink establishments. Until September 20, 2019, all Ukrainian food industry enterprises providing food services, as well as food suppliers and carriers, were required to implement the HACCP food safety management system. The implementation of the HACCP system in restaurant business establishments is a difficult process that concerns all services and all personnel, because it is necessary not only to create an appropriate service, develop documentation and an algorithm for performing all procedures, review technological processes, equipment, raw material suppliers, but also train personnel comply with the new operating rules. The paper analyzes the factors of potential pollution: physical, chemical and biological and their influence on the quality of the final product. Each of these three factors are monitored at all stages of production, that is, manufacturers comply with fundamentally new rules in food production. For each stage, its own critical control point is defined and recommended, at which the products are tested to ensure product quality. The paper presents a list of basic and operational documentation of the HACCP system, which must be used in restaurants. All enterprises whose activities are related to food products are trying to implement the HACCP system, not only because it will allow domestic producers to comply with the requirements of domestic legislation, but also because it will give consumers confidence that the products they real high qualityand absolutely safe for health.
The agri-food sector has been and remains the basis of Ukraine’s economy. Today, in the face of industrial decline and the all-encompassing process of deindustrialization of the economy, agri-food ...enterprises remain stable market players. Despite obstacles to development, agro-holdings have long dominated the agri-food market, accumulating significant land and financial resources. The largest companies are Kernel, UkrLandFarming, MHP, Agroposperis and Astarta-Kyiv, whose land banks exceed 200,000 hectares. These companies employ almost 75,000 workers. Agricultural holdings invest in their own development. One of the priority areas is innovative development. It is innovation that provides stability and a future for companies. The largest innovation fund is owned by Kernel, which spent $ 2.7 million, MHP — 2.5, AP Group — 2, Astarta-Kyiv, Harveast and IC — 1, Epicentr Agro — $ 0.42 million. Among these companies, Harveast and IC made the highest investments in innovative development per 1 hectare of agricultural land — 8.1 dollars, MHP — 6.9 $, Kernel and AP Group — 5 $, Astarta-Kyiv — 4 $ and Epicentr Agro — 3.8 $ per 1 hectare of agricultural land. However, despite these achievements, a mark of $ 50 / ha is considered acceptable. Due to the implementation of innovative measures Astarta-Kyiv saved about 15 million dollars in 4 years, Agroprosperis several times increased the efficiency of decisions made by agronomists, UkrLandFarming increased yields by a quarter. In general, according to experts, 80% of all spending on innovation is spent on computerization and automation of accounting processes, electronic document management, and protection of information from theft. Our study allowed us to analyze the work of company management in terms of areas of innovative development and to derive an indicator of integrated innovative development by segments and individual companies. This approach can be extrapolated to small and medium-sized agri-food enterprises.

The purpose of this research is to present the developed parametric model for assessing the current technological and infrastructure state of food enterprises regarding the implementation of Industry ...4.0. The research is performed using a method of linear combination of parameters with weights that reflect their relative importance in the final assessment. Methodology: In accordance with the chosen research topic, parameters were identified as the most crucial for forming future evaluation criteria to calculate the current technological and infrastructure state of a food enterprise regarding the implementation of Industry 4.0. This was achieved using the method of linear combination of parameters (Weighted arithmetic mean, The min-max scaling method) with weights that reflect their relative importance in the final assessment. The research finding is the ranges of assessing the current state of enterprises. Modern technologies and tools of Industry 4.0 are rapidly evolving both in the international and national markets. The digital transformation of business models opens up new opportunities and challenges for enterprises, encompassing the rational use of resources, socio-economic relationships, technological strategy, and the incorporation of the "Industry 4.0" concept into company activities. As a practical example for assessing the current state of technological and infrastructural support for enterprises in the food industry, the Ukrainian-Spanish Urozhay LLC has been chosen. Based on the results of the conducted assessment, the current state of implementation and utilization of Industry 4.0 tools at the enterprise under consideration was determined. A set of recommendations and proposed measures aimed at improving the performance of the investigated enterprise has been provided, among which it is necessary to highlight: attracting additional investments, opening a new type of collective business involving small enterprises with different types of product portfolios. As a perspective for further research, the design of a unified production and trading hub is proposed, consisting of automated management systems, robotic stations, and physical and cloud data analytics systems.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid spread of COVID-19 around the world has become one of the main focuses of concern in almost every country, and governments have taken numerous ...measures to prevent/mitigate the spread of the disease. As an essential social determinant, COVID-19 has significantly impacted consumers' food consumption behavior and healthy eating habits/behaviors. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on food consumption behavior, and the main goal was to assess the possible problems (such as food waste and weight gain) caused by changes in food consumption behavior during the pandemic. Based on the accounting data of Chinese enterprises found in the China Stock Market and Accounting Research (CSMAR) database, this study uses economic theory and the translog function to conduct an average partial effect (APE) analysis of the pandemic, and finds that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased Chinese people's overall food consumption, and the consumption of food from large food enterprises has increased even more (APE = 0.11 vs. APE = 0.31). This study suggests that food waste and weight gain in the Chinese population may be more severe during the pandemic, and it is necessary to enhance food management and weight management through multiple pathways.
