Salient object detection is an increasingly popular topic in the computer vision field, particularly for images with complex backgrounds and diverse object parts. Background information is an ...essential factor in detecting salient objects. This paper suggests a robust and effective methodology for salient object detection. This method involves two main stages. The first stage is to produce a saliency detection map based on the dense and sparse reconstruction of image regions using a refined background dictionary. The refined background dictionary uses a boundary conductivity measurement to exclude salient object regions near the image's boundary from a background dictionary. In the second stage, the CascadePSP network is integrated to refine and correct the local boundaries of the saliency mask to highlight saliency objects more uniformly. Using six evaluation indexes, experimental outcomes conducted on three datasets show that the proposed approach performs effectively compared to the state-of-the-art methods in salient object detection, particularly in identifying the challenging salient objects located near the image's boundary. These results demonstrate the potential of the proposed framework for various computer vision applications.

Increased interest in the two- and three-dimensional geometries and development of faults and other types of fractures in rock has led to an increasingly bewildering terminology. Here we give ...definitions for the geometric, topological, kinematic and mechanical relationships between geological faults and other types of fractures, focussing on how they relate to form networks.
•We define the terms relating to fault and fracture networks.•Terms are divided into those that are geological, geometric, topological, kinematic and/or mechanical.•Terms devised relate to individual or to pairs of faults or other types of fractures, or to networks.
Chaucer’s Church Foster, Edward E.; Carey, David H.

eBook
The purpose of Chaucer‘s Church is to provide clear, concise and reliable explanations of every term Chaucer uses that has a religious, liturgical, or ecclesiastical meaning. It uses a dictionary ...format, arranged according to Chaucer’s spellings, to make information readily accessible for students, teachers, critics, and the general reader. The shorter entries present brief definitions which are more lively and illuminating than those in standard dictionaries or glossaries; the longer entries are in fact short essays, with suggestions for further reading, on broader or more complex topics. In all cases the entries concentrate on lucid and accurate presentation of the meanings that the terms had or could have had for Chaucer and a fourteenth-century audience.
The book is a compact but precise reference for readers of all levels of experience on the vocabulary of fourteenth-century religion, which is often unfamiliar or only hazily understood. A careful system of cross-references guides the reader to related terms, so that individual entries can be further explored in related or larger contexts. The book may also be browsed or read on its own, for the entries taken together, especially the brief essays, provide a coherent introduction to the Christian world of the late fourteenth century.
In Chaucer ‘s Church, the editors have succeeded in compiling a volume that combines ease of use with readability and rigorous accuracy. This book provides convenient and trustworthy access to Chaucer’s religious world.
Extensive attention has been widely paid to enhance the spatial resolution of hyperspectral (HS) images with the aid of multispectral (MS) images in remote sensing. However, the ability in the fusion ...of HS and MS images remains to be improved, particularly in large-scale scenes, due to the limited acquisition of HS images. Alternatively, we super-resolve MS images in the spectral domain by the means of partially overlapped HS images, yielding a novel and promising topic: spectral superresolution (SSR) of MS imagery. This is challenging and less investigated task due to its high ill-posedness in inverse imaging. To this end, we develop a simple but effective method, called joint sparse and low-rank learning (J-SLoL), to spectrally enhance MS images by jointly learning low-rank HS-MS dictionary pairs from overlapped regions. J-SLoL infers and recovers the unknown HS signals over a larger coverage by sparse coding on the learned dictionary pair. Furthermore, we validate the SSR performance on three HS-MS data sets (two for classification and one for unmixing) in terms of reconstruction, classification, and unmixing by comparing with several existing state-of-the-art baselines, showing the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed J-SLoL algorithm. Furthermore, the codes and data sets will be available at https://github.com/danfenghong/IEEE_TGRS_J-SLoL , contributing to the remote sensing (RS) community.
In this paper, we propose a new anomaly detection method for hyperspectral images based on two well-designed dictionaries: background dictionary and potential anomaly dictionary. In order to ...effectively detect an anomaly and eliminate the influence of noise, the original image is decomposed into three components: background, anomalies, and noise. In this way, the anomaly detection task is regarded as a problem of matrix decomposition. Considering the homogeneity of background and the sparsity of anomalies, the low-rank and sparse constraints are imposed in our model. Then, the background and potential anomaly dictionaries are constructed using the background and anomaly priors. For the background dictionary, a joint sparse representation (JSR)-based dictionary selection strategy is proposed, assuming that the frequently used atoms in the overcomplete dictionary tend to be the background. In order to make full use of the prior information of anomalies hidden in the scene, the potential anomaly dictionary is constructed. We define a criterion, i.e., the anomalous level of a pixel, by using the residual calculated in the JSR model within its local region. Then, it is combined with a weighted term to alleviate the influence of noise and background. Experiments show that our proposed anomaly detection method based on potential anomaly and background dictionaries construction can achieve superior results compared with other state-of-the-art methods.

The glossary of pollen and spore terminology was first presented to the international palynological community as the final outcome of the Working Group on Palynological Terminology at the 8th ...International Palynological Congress in Aix-en-Provence in 1992. It became widely accepted as reference guide for palynologists to assist in the preparation of accurate and consistent descriptions of their material. It also serves as a practical source of information for non-specialists who wish to understand the meaning of the large number of existing palynological terms.
The history of the glossary began in 1972 at the 3rd IPC at Novosibirsk when the working group on palynology was established. Throughout its history the project has been a collaborative effort with contributions from many palynologists, representing all branches of the discipline. Only through this long and elaborate procedure, with input from many people, it has been possible to produce the glossary.
The entries are arranged alphabetically and are accompanied by simple schematic illustrations where appropriate. These contain the minimum amount of information needed to explain the feature. Moreover, to simplify the recognition of pollen and spore wall layers, colours have been used to indicate the corresponding layers.
The first edition had 547 terms of which 339 have been accepted and recommended for use. In the second edition, a further 41 terms have been added with their appropriate illustrations. Of these, 10 have been accepted and 31 rejected for a variety of reasons. Where necessary, illustrations have been revised. An extensive list of consulted literature has been added.
