To Write Towards Where We Don't Know: Secret as a Horizon Writing can be considered as a way to unveil unconscious secrets, as Beckett and Bauchau seem to have tried in their works. This led them to ...an intimate confession, more or less transparent for themselves and the others. How did they deal with that? Angelica Liddell claims that she makes the "pornography of the soul", promising a true con¬fession. But her secret is fake: her intimate drama lays hidden behind the stage of “Todo el cielo sobre la terra” (“El síndrome de Wendy”). Spectators are trapped in hyperreality. Marie Payen's performance could look like one more exhibitionist show as it's about her father that she's never known. But “Je Brûle” is a confession which cannot be completed: it is perma¬nently reinvented with an improvised text. It reminds us of what we don't and will never know. Her only confession: there are secrets impossible to unveil.
In lieu of an abstract, here is an excerpt: ...it is important to recognize the evolution of this field and the ways in which documentation around this field has itself created certain power ...imbalances. ... Many of those whose work has gone unnamed are artists of color, women, disabled individuals, trans and nonbinary individuals whose own experiences of disempowerment in society and in the performance industry forced them to forge practices to protect themselves. These people are the pioneers of consent-based practice. As an intimacy specialist, I recognize that I may never know the names of many who forged the early path for this field, and I may never know the origin of the foundation upon which my practice continues to build. As a scholar, I want to ensure that our evolution moving forward is documented, and I want to understand whose work I should be crediting as I continue forming my own artistic consent-based praxis as an intimacy choreographer, as an educator, and as a theatre maker. I invite other artists and scholars to add to this literature review, and to document the as-of-yet unpublished history of consent-based practices used in performance, and those who created them.

Modesty garments and barriers are some of the tools used by intimacy professionals in scenes of physical intimacy. This equipment is, in my opinion, still the unspoken hero that helps me do my job, ...that gives performers a better sense of protection and a tool that supports and enhances consent based practices. In the following paper, I will look at modesty garments and barriers I currently use in my practice. I will chart my own journey, discuss the development of INTIMASK, give examples of current vocabulary I use, and share a checklist. Get ready, this paper is long and I take full responsibility for that. Writings about modesty garments and barriers are extremely scarce in books, academic research and many articles discuss them on a superficial level. And so it was difficult for me to edit sections and cut corners from the information I felt was needed. ... This paper is written with some progression that makes sense to me and yet, I do think each section can also stand on its own. So please journey through it at your own pace and choosing.
The ways that couples form and manage their intimate relationships at higher and lower levels of socioeconomic status (SES) have been diverging steadily over the past several decades. At higher SES ...levels, couples postpone marriage and childbirth to invest in education and careers, but they eventually marry at high rates and have relatively low risk for divorce. At lower SES levels, couples are more likely to cohabit and give birth prior to marriage and less likely to marry at all. This review examines how SES comes to be associated with the formation, development, and dissolution of intimate relationships. Overall, research has highlighted how a couple's socioeconomic context facilitates some choices and constrains others, resulting in different capacities for relationship maintenance and different adaptive mating strategies for more and less advantaged couples. A generalizable relationship science requires research that acknowledges these differences and one that recruits, describes, and attends to socioeconomic diversity across couples.
This research explores how and why TikTok users from Turkey choose to make TikTok content. Drawing from the concept of polymedia and debates on digital connection and disconnection, which center on ...individuals’ choices whether to connect or detach from digital media based on the affordances they offer, the article highlights an affordance shaping users’ choices of media that have not received sufficient emphasis in these discussions: namely, the ability of a platform to foster intimacy. Based on qualitative research combining structured and semistructured interviews with 14 individuals, the article discusses how and why TikTok has come to be perceived either as an object of attachment with which individuals have intimate relations or as a site for individuals to fashion a shared sense of intimate, safe space with other users. I also illustrate that the ways individuals talk about intimacy intersect with how they talk about the algorithmic systems. Combining approaches from critical algorithm studies, media choices, and research on mediated intimacies, the article demonstrates that (a) individuals choose TikTok to foster intimacies and (b) users connect seemingly contradictory concepts of intimacy and algorithms in their choices of TikTok.
This paper seeks to examine both how emotions have been explored in emotional geography and also how affect has been understood in affectual geography. By tracing out the conceptual influences ...underlying emotional and affectual geography, I seek to understand both the similarities and differences between their approaches. I identify three key areas of agreement: a relational ontology that privileges fluidity; a privileging of proximity and intimacy in their accounts; and a favouring of ethnographic methods.Even so, there is a fundamental disagreement, concerning the relationship -or nonrelationship -between emotions and affect. Yet, this split raises awkward questions for both approaches, about how emotions and affect are to be understood and also about their geographies. As importantly, mapping the agreements and disagreements within emotional and affectual geography helps with an exploration of the political implications of this work. I draw upon psychoanalytic geography to suggest ways of addressing certain snags in both emotional and affectual geography.
Intimate relationships and depression are among the most pivot topics worldwide. It is closely related to all of the people around us. Researchers found less bullying and unfair treatment of female ...characters now. Nevertheless, there are still problems happening. So, the severe problem after bullying comes up is symptoms like depression and anxiety—the correlation between intimate relationships and these symptoms is still a lack of cognition. So, this study need to find out to what extent intimate relationships have a positive or negative effect on anxiety and depression symptoms. This article collected data from different studies and essays and looked for patterns in the results to see the correlation between intimate relationships and depression. The result shows that in rural areas, where people lack education, there is a higher chance of domestic violence and depression symptoms, leading to consequences like divorce. Also, when people see female characters getting unfair treatment when they are young, they are more likely to learn violence and do it to others, imitating what they saw in the past.
Drawing on interviews with 10 gay streamers and 30 viewers, this article analyzes a new feature of live streaming on Blued, a Chinese gay male dating app. Live streaming invites users to either ...perform themselves or watch others perform. Unlike western gay dating apps that monetize users’ hooking-up encounters, the business model behind Blued instead capitalizes on affective encounters among gay streamers and viewers. Through paid virtual gifts, which circulate as affective signs, live streaming fosters and intensifies viewers’ intimate attachment to gay streamers. The virtual intimacy produced by gay live streaming entails a significant economic dimension, and is therefore stigmatized. In consequence, gay streamers do not see streaming as sex-related work, and paying viewers do not portray gifts as consumption. In understating the economic and sexual underpinnings of affective encounters mediated by live streaming, gay streamers and viewers not only reinforce heteronormativity, but also produce homonormativity.
: Sexual Minority Women (SMW) are disproportionately likely to struggle with substance use and shame, two factors that are associated with poorer relationship quality and decreased relational ...intimacy (Doyle & Molix, 2015). However, there is a dearth of research examining shame and substance use concurrently among SMW.
The current study elucidated the role of shame-based cognitions (SBCs) and shame-based behaviors (SBBs) in explaining the relationship between alcohol use severity and relational intimacy. We recruited adult cisgender women (N = 105) in a romantic relationship who self-identified as a sexual minority and reported alcohol use during the past three months through Amazon Mechanical Turk. Participants completed an online survey assessing alcohol use, SBCs, SBBs, and relational intimacy.
There was a significant positive relationship between alcohol use severity with SBCs (r = .29, p = .003) and with SBBs (r = .62, p <.001). SBBs were shown to be negatively correlated with relational intimacy (r = -.48, p < .001). Parallel mediation analysis demonstrated that SBCs and SBBs accounted for approximately 34.4% of the variance in intimacy. The indirect effects of SBCs were significant (β = .10, 95% CI .02, .18 while SBBs (β = -.14, 95% CI -.29, .01) did not show effects.
Given the disproportionate rates of alcohol use among SMW, this study offers a nuanced picture of the relationships between constructs known to impact alcohol use. The findings underscore the importance of SBCs and point to a potential treatment target among SMW presenting with alcohol use and diminished relational intimacy.
