The article discusses the relationship between literature and photography based on the novel O corpo interminável, a narrative in which the theme of photography finds predominance space. For ...theoretical reading, theorists from the field of photography were selected, such as Benjamin (1996), Barthes (1984), Cartier-Bresson (2015), Sontag (2004), Bazin (1991) and Machado (2015). In the main points developed by the authors, the applicability of the theories to the reading of the literary text was sought, providing an interartistic discourse that enhances new links between literature and photography.
This study uses a two-stream multivariate data embedding network and FLAT model to effectively integrate text structure and linguistic information to enhance the performance of named entity ...recognition. In addition, named entity recognition and literary narrative analysis were carried out using linear chain conditional random field and Apriori algorithm, and literary character narratives and knowledge graphs were constructed. Finally, the characteristics and differences between Chinese and Western literature are deeply explored through econometric analysis and character similarity analysis, and it is found that the differences in geographic environment and socio-economic characteristics profoundly impact Chinese and Western literary art and poetics. The most fundamental difference between Chinese and Western societies lies in the commercial character of Western socio-economics, while China is more rural. The study reveals the uniqueness and intersection of the two civilizations in literary creation, providing a new perspective and theoretical support for cross-cultural academic dialogue.
This article highlights the variety that characterises the Spanish romances of chivalry as a genre. The uniqueness of Valerián de Hungría by Dionís Clemente (1540) is given by its rich content and ...lexicon. By the end of the book, the author includes a heated debate between two knights whose opinions about love contrast. They are Pacífico and Cupidio. Such a dispute needs to be studied in light of the bibliography about the genre within the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, in order to find out which elements Clemente re-elaborates. The investigation develops through the comparison with a few episodes taken from other romances of chivalry, but also with the ideology spread within contemporary works in which the same themes of Valerián are remarked.
L’articolo sottolinea la varietà che si riscontra nel genere dei libri di cavalleria. L’unicità di Valerián de Hungría, in particolare, è garantita dalla sua ricchezza contenutistica e lessicale. Verso la fine del libro, infatti, l’autore presenta un acceso dibattito tra due cavalieri con opinioni contrapposte riguardo all’amore. Si tratta di Pacífico e Cupidio e il dialogo del quale sono portavoce merita di essere studiato alla luce del genere cavalleresco sia nella sua configurazione medievale, sia in quanto letteratura di moda del Cinquecento, al fine di mettere in risalto gli elementi rielaborati da Clemente. Lo studio sviluppa un confronto con alcuni episodi di libri di cavalleria, ma considera anche il diffondersi di un’ideologia in altri testi contemporanei che affrontano gli stessi temi presentati nel capitolo del Valerián che si analizza.

the mythological story about the escape of the goddess Astrea and its treatment in the Spanish literature of ...the Golden Age. We offer the analysis of an unpublished testimony of
the Diálogo de Mercurio y la Virtud: this text is a translation by Bartolomé Leonardo de Argensola that could be interesting to study the treatment and reception of the contempt of
the goddess Virtue, who is associated with the goddess of Justice, among the writers that dealt with moral issues in their texts. The article provides a codicological description of the MS in which we also analyze its interesting history up to present times. Also, we provide an analysis of two new testimonies of Argensola’s Menipo litigante and Demócrito (also included in this MS). Finally, we provide an edition of the
Diálogo de Mercurio y la Virtud that includes variants from other testimonies, as well as a philological annotation.
El contenido de este artículo pretende sintetizar varios elementos de interés filológico que pueden adscribirse en último término al tópico literario representado por la historia
mitológica de Astrea y su desarrollo en la literatura española de los Siglos de Oro. Así pues, se ofrece el estudio de un testimonio inédito del Diálogo de Mercurio y la Virtud, traducción de Bartolomé Leonardo de Argensola de gran interés a la hora de observar la recepción y el tratamiento que este tema paralelo al de la huida de la diosa Justicia tuvo entre los escritores con tendencia a plantear cuestiones de tipo moral en su obra. Además, se aporta una descripción codicológica donde se detalla el interesante periplo bibliográfico que sufrió este manuscrito hasta llegar a su ubicación actual: la iblioteca de la Universidad de Oviedo. Asimismo, se indican los folios donde se encuentran dos testimonios desconocidos de los diálogos Menipo litigante y Demócrito, textos originales de Argensola que acompañan a la traducción en el mismo volumen. Por último, se ofrece una edición anotada, incluyendo en aparato de variantes las lecturas de otros testimonios, del Diálogo de Mercurio y la Virtud copiado en este manuscrito
Two points of view are required at least to make possible the necessary debate in a controversy, opposing opinions that are usually formulated by two interlocutors. The literary dialogue seems a very ...suggestive and effective way to show both sides of the issue that generates controversy. The resources used in the Diálogo de la alegría del alma contra el temor de la muerte (Cuenca, 1612) in order to produce polemic, argument and persuasion by a talk of two interlocutors about the best way to die are analysed in this article.
Children use syntax to guide verb learning. We asked whether the syntactic structure in which a novel verb occurs is meaningful to children even without a concurrent scene from which to infer the ...verb's semantic content. In two experiments, 2-year-olds observed dialogues in which interlocutors used a new verb in transitive ("lane bticked the baby!") or intransitive ("lane blicked!") sentences. The children later heard the verb in holation ("Find blicking!") while watching a one-participant event and a two-participant event presented side by side. Children who had heard transitive dialogues looked reliably longer at the two-participant event than did those who had heard intransitive diahgues. This effect persisted even when children were tested on a different day 9 but disappeared when no novel verb accompanied the test events (Experiment 2). Thus, 2-year-olds gather useful combinatorial information about a novel verb simply from hearing it in sentences, and later retrieve that information to guide interpretation of the verb.
Emphasis is largely associated with the expression of emotional involvement in speech acts in general. In the fictional dialogue, the relevance of emphasis is multiplied due to several ...considerations. Firstly, the emphatic utterances impact the emotional content of the text and affect its style and reception. Secondly, it is the compromises and the careful linguistic and stylistic choices that authors have to make in order to effectively render the emphasis typical of speech in the written mode. Thirdly, if a work of literature is translated, the emphasis that the dialogue displays is to be equally forceful in its target language version. With these considerations in view, the study sets out to examine the possibility of obtaining a similarly emphatic content of an English source text in translational Romanian by means of lexical items. To this end, a relevant number of emphatic dialogic instances have been depicted for analysis from John Fowles’s novel Mantissa and from its translation into Romanian. The objectives of this study are to identify the level of equivalence in the two versions of the novel and to shed a comparative light on the lexical means that lead to the realization of emphasis in English and Romanian.
