Buradan hareketle tarihsel akışı anlamak, sosyolojik yapıları anlamak için önemlidir. Bu makalede, bu iki akış doǧrultusunda, tüm dünyayı etkileyen ve modern toplumun ana dönüşüm noktası olan Sanayi Devrimi sürecinde Osmanlı İmparatorluǧu'ndaki deǧişim ve sanayileşme çabalarına bakıldıktan sonra, sanayileşmede önemli bir yere sahip olan Beykoz'un 19. yüzyılda sanayileşme hareketlerindeki yeri ve önemine kısaca bakılacaktır. Buradan hareketle, makalenin ilk bölümünde, 19. yüzyılda Osmanlı'nın sanayileşme politikaları, iç ve dış dinamiklerin etkisiyle iktisadi yapısında meydana gelen deǧişimlere deǧinilmiştir. İkinci bölümde, Osmanlı İmparatorluǧu'nun sanayileşme hareketinde önemli bir yere sahip olan Beykoz'da açılan sanayi kuruluşları özetlenmiştir. Ardından bu deǧişimin yeni Cumhuriyete nasıl aktarıldıǧı sergilenmiştir. Sonuç bölümünde de hem devletin hem de özel teşebbüslerin girişimleriyle açılan fabrikaların, tarihsel süreç içindeki varlıǧı ve yaratılan iş gücünün oluşturduǧu plansız göç ve nüfus artışının Beykoz'da nasıl çarpık yapılaşmaya zemin hazırladıǧını gösterilmeye çalışılmıştır. Son dönemde, kentleşmeyle birlikte sanayinin kent dışına taşınması, fabrikalarda çalışan nüfusun gitmesiyle yeni bir göç dalgasına neden olarak yeniden yapısal deǧişimlere yol açmıştır. Beykoz, İstanbul'daki konumu gereǧi, işçi sınıfının yaşadıǧı homojen bir yapıdan kentli orta sınıfın yaşadıǧı heterojen bir yapıya dönüşmüştür.
Since the mid‐2000s, rural development and politics in China has entered a new phase that revolves around what the central government calls ‘agricultural modernization’. Transforming the ...once‐dominant smallholding, family‐based agriculture has become a focal point of the government's programme of rural rejuvenation, where a range of economic changes unleashed by urbanization and industrialization also converge. We argue that in this new context, agrarian change has become the key vantage point from which to study rural China. We review key contributions of the papers in this special issue and highlight their insights on rural differentiation, land politics and rural livelihoods. We discuss how studying the ‘Chinese path’ of agrarian transition can contribute to ongoing debates on key themes in agrarian studies, including both the agrarian questions of capital and of labour, and how agrarian political economy offers unique perspectives on the overall processes of capitalist development in China.

This article aims to introduce the concept and culture of Bang into the long and continuous practice of making, managing, and thinking about the architecture of Seoul. Bang is the Korean word for the ...basic unit of an interior space (similar to the English word 'room'). The propagation of the alternative of Bang accords neither with the rational aesthetic principles of architectural Modernism nor with the popularisation of it as a style, for the simple reason that most people in Seoul do not understand its architecture as being either a self-referential expression of individuality or a form of art to be preserved. The experience of Seoul's residents differs from an approach to architecture that takes into consideration visual organisation, formal aesthetics, or stylistic distinctions. This article argues that the architecture of the city of Seoul is perceived by ordinary Seoulites as an empty shell, an artificial field for life, an infrastructure stripped of any stylistic or formal language. By extending the 'public' space of the city to the interior of buildings, Bangs operate as a reminder of the constructed meaning of the idea of the 'public', demonstrating a bare condition that transcends the contemporary focus on aesthetics and forms. Emerging at the nexus formed by the daily realities of competition, exploitation, and the lack of scruples bred by contemporary neoliberalism, Bangs enable the citizens of Seoul to thrive in their own way and on their terms.
Neoclassical economics relies on highly formalized deductive logic to create an overly simplified picture of economic practices. Its universalized model of modernization assumes that the relationship ...between state and market is antagonistic. This presumption reduces China’s “economic miracle” to a simple transformation into a market economy and underestimates the role played by the government, making it impossible to construct a theory that considers China’s subjectivity. Studies on China’s economy should focus on its practices, which may appear to be paradoxical if seen only from the perspective of Western neoclassical economics, in order to construct an accurate depiction of the foundations of China’s development experience. Only through such an endeavor will it be possible to incorporate into any new theory of economic modernization the distinctive features of China’s development.
Historically, mulberry has been effectively used as a traditional medicine in Asia for the treatment of various infectious and internal diseases. It is a rich source of bioactive compounds that can ...promote human health. However, to date, it has not been officially or scientifically recognized because of a lack of accepted and standardized methodology for its evaluation. Numerous studies have been conducted by applying modern biotechnological tools to explore the relationship between the active ingredients in mulberry and their biological activities to solve ambiguities in their mechanism of action, opening a new horizon in traditional Chinese medicine with the potential for modernization in the near future.
This paper presents a concise overview on mulberry by examining its major bioactive components, including anthocyanins, polysaccharides, phenols, alkaloids and flavonoids. Recent technical advances are discussed for extraction (solid-liquid extraction, pressurized liquid extraction, supercritical-fluid extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, ultrasonic assisted extraction, enzymatic assisted extraction, solid-phase extraction) and separation (macroporous resins adsorption, silica gel chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, gel filtration chromatography, preparative liquid chromatography, countercurrent chromatography).
The mystery behind mulberry lies in various bioactivities that have been explored by modern technologies. Studies employing efficient, systematic, and practical protocols for sample preparation and isolation integrated with various analytical systems have been applied to discover, separate, and identify analytes in natural plants especially traditional Chinese medicines and to explore the scientific principles that will benefit the standardization and modernization of natural product research.

This paper presents the development of systematic machine learning (ML) approach to enable explainable and rapid assessment of fire resistance and fire-induced spalling of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. The developed approach comprises an ensemble of three novel ML algorithms namely; random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosted trees (ExGBT), and deep learning (DL). These algorithms are trained to account for a wide collection of geometric characteristics and material properties, as well as loading conditions to examine fire performance of normal and high strength RC columns by analyzing a comprehensive database of fire tests comprising of over 494 observations. The developed ensemble is also capable of presenting quantifiable insights to ML predictions; thus, breaking free from the notion of “black-box” ML and establishing a solid step towards transparent and explainable ML. Most importantly, this work tackles the scarcity of available fire tests by proposing new techniques to leverage the use of real, synthetic, and augmented fire test observations. The developed ML ensemble has been calibrated and validated for standard and design fire exposures and one-, two-, three- and four-sided fire exposures thus; covering a wide range of practical scenarios present during fire incidents. When fully deployed, the developed ensemble can analyze over 5,000 RC columns in under 60 s; thus, providing an attractive solution for researchers and practitioners. The presented approach can also be easily extended for evaluating fire resistance and spalling of other structural members under varying fire scenarios and loading conditions and hence paves the way to modernize the state of this research area and practice.
