Charging stations are the basic infrastructure for accommodating the energy needs of electric vehicles (EVs). Companies are expected to invest in these charging stations by installing them at ...locations with a dense concentration of vehicles, such as parking places, commercial centres, and workplaces. In order for investors in EV charging stations to maximise their profits and mitigate the impact on the power grid, these stations would benefit from coupling with an energy storage system (ESS). ESS would be used to arbitrage energy and to balance out the time-variant and uncertain EV energy demand. This study proposes a framework to optimise the offering/bidding strategy of an ensemble of charging stations coupled with ESS in the day-ahead electricity market. The proposed framework accounts for degradation of the ESS, robust scheduling against price uncertainty, as well as stochastic energy demand from EVs. The results show the viability of the proposed framework in providing cost savings to an ensemble of EV charging stations.
This study was conducted in 2007–2009 as the IATSS Research Project to consider the comfort and safety of city centers in the automobile age from the perspective of “parking places.”
We focused on ...four elements related to parking places, that is, 3D & M (density, disposition, design, and management) and proposed changes to parking policy in Japan by comparing and analyzing the actual conditions of parking lots or facilities in different city centers and legal systems in several counties, including Japan, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
The key concept of our proposal is that we should shift the policy of parking from equipment-duty car-parking “on-site” to parking installation”in-area,“good management, and smart operation.
The findings of this project were widely shared through open symposium with non-members of the IATSS as well as book publication and led to many system revisions in the Japanese parking policies.

Moped-style scooters are one of the most popular systems of micro-mobility. They are undoubtedly good for the city, as they promote forms of environmentally-friendly mobility, in which flexibility ...helps prevent traffic build-up in the urban centers where they operate. However, their increasing numbers are also generating conflicts as a result of the bad behavior of users, their unwarranted use in public spaces, and above all their parking. This paper proposes a methodology for finding parking spaces for shared motorcycle services using Geographic information system (GIS) location-allocation models and Global Positioning System (GPS) data. We used the center of Madrid and data from the company Muving (one of the city’s main operators) for our case study. As well as finding the location of parking spaces for motorbikes, our analysis examines how the varying distribution of demand over the course of the day affects the demand allocated to parking spaces. The results demonstrate how reserving a relatively small number of parking spaces for scooters makes it possible to capture over 70% of journeys in the catchment area. The daily variations in the distribution of demand slightly reduce the efficiency of the network of parking spaces in the morning and increase it at night, when demand is strongly focused on the most central areas.
The article concerns on a methodological approach to design Rest and Service Areas. Because there is recorded steady growth in food cargo that require specific temperatures its resulting in an ...increase in demand for specialized transport. Transportation of food is usually done using vehicles equipped with refrigeration or heating. The article presents the design requirements for Rest and Service Areas (RSA), which is one of the most important elements of the road network, that condition affects the safety of drivers and cargo. Based on growth assumptions of effectiveness a functional model of RSA consisting five data bases and nine research tasks has been proposed. As a primary parameter studied in the model was the RSA effectiveness assessed by the rate of parking spaces utilization. The values of this index were estimated according to the share of traffic cars leave the motorway to the traffic flow of cars on the motorway. Evaluation of test results was based on the indicative comparative analysis of the existing and forecasted traffic flows of trucks with loads sensitive to the conditions and the time of their carriage. In the article pointed out that decisions taken in the course of modernization of the national RSA network should be reviewed and assessed through simulation studies of the transport process taking into account different boundary conditions, a risk analysis of transport depending on the type of transported cargo and analyze the efficiency and profitability of the national network creation of parking places adapted to specialized service of trucks carrying food cargo.
U navedenim varijantama garažno-parkirni objekt predstavlja glavni predmet rješavanja problema parkiranja, gdje se uz izgradnju navedenog objekta i uklanjanjem postojećih parkirnih mjesta povećavaju parkirališni kapaciteti.
This paper presents parking issues in the City of Krk. Increasing the number of vehicles on the roads results in vehicle accommodation or parking. This problem is most evident in big towns and cities on the coast, where during the summer months the population increases because of tourists who come in large numbers. The City of Krk is one of the most important tourist destinations of the homonymous island and as such, it attracts more and more tourists in the area. The increasing number of vehicles enter the centre of the city in search of a parking space, especially in summer months, causing traffic congestion which results in air pollution from vehicles producing exhaust gases and in increased noise, all of which negatively affects the local population. In this paper three variants are proposed in order to address the parking problem in the City of Krk, by increasing the parking capacity of the vehicles in the centre of the city. In these variants, the garage-parking facility is the main object of the parking problem, where
the parking facilities are expanded with the construction of the before
mentioned facility and the removal of the existing parking lots. The aim of the paper is to present the proposed solutions to produce positive effects of the parking problem in the City of Krk. The solution
is reflected in the relocation of roads in the very centre of the city
from the vehicles that are looking for parking places which has the effect of reducing traffic congestion and thus decreasing the air pollution and having a lesser impact of noise on the local environment. It also has positive effects on the quality of life for the local population. The purpose of this paper is to show the issue of parking in
a city and how this problem can be solved taking into account the available space and rules of traffic flow in the area of the city.
In the large cities, it remains difficult and expensive to create more parking spaces for vehicles since they have almost reached their full occupancy. The lack of available parking places leads to ...the problem of traffic congestion and consequently to pollution, since drivers will spend a lot of time looking for a vacant parking place. Hence the need to establish a parking management system able to improve the exploitation of the existent parking places at a city level. This paper proposes a new multi agent system for parking vacancies detection based on vision techniques. We explore a network of interconnected video surveillance cameras and parking stations to provide an intelligent service to the drivers in order to facilitate their task and improve the exploitation of the parking resources. The proposed system introduces a new approach for parking spaces modeling and elaborates an adaptive approach for vacancies estimation in order to supply the driver with reliable information about the vacant parking spaces in the city according to the size of his vehicle.
Parking policy measures are widely used to manage cars in nature areas. Only with data from long-term monitoring projects is it possible to separate “normal” fluctuation in the number of cars from ...fluctuation caused by trends or caused by the effects of these measures. An evaluation of measures implemented in two dune areas in the Netherlands shows that parking policy measures affect the number of cars. While the number and location of parking places can be used to manage the number of cars and their spatial distribution in the area, the implementation of parking charges only brings about a temporary effect.
