Within the purview of research and academics, plagiarism is considered as a deciet or an offence which does not have a legal implication per se (i.e. no legal petition or lawsuits can be considered ...to file against the accused under the jurisdiction of constituted governmental law) but is condemned strongly and penalised to the extent of expulsion from the associated institutions/universities.
This article summarizes the research on computational methods to detect academic plagiarism by systematically reviewing 239 research papers published between 2013 and 2018. To structure the ...presentation of the research contributions, we propose novel technically oriented typologies for plagiarism prevention and detection efforts, the forms of academic plagiarism, and computational plagiarism detection methods. We show that academic plagiarism detection is a highly active research field. Over the period we review, the field has seen major advances regarding the automated detection of strongly obfuscated and thus hard-to-identify forms of academic plagiarism. These improvements mainly originate from better semantic text analysis methods, the investigation of non-textual content features, and the application of machine learning. We identify a research gap in the lack of methodologically thorough performance evaluations of plagiarism detection systems. Concluding from our analysis, we see the integration of heterogeneous analysis methods for textual and non-textual content features using machine learning as the most promising area for future research contributions to improve the detection of academic plagiarism further.
All papers published in this volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series have been peer reviewed through processes administered by the Editors. Reviews were conducted by expert referees to the ...professional and scientific standards expected of a proceedings journal published by IOP Publishing. • Type of peer review: Single-blind review process was followed. • Conference submission management system: Easychair Conference submission management system was used. • Number of submissions received: 84 • Number of submissions sent for review: 60 papers were sent for review. 24 papers were rejected in the initial screening process due to either of the following reasons – does not fit in the scope of the conference, due to high percentage of similarity index checked through plagiarism software. • Number of submissions accepted: 36 • Acceptance Rate (Number of Submissions Accepted / Number of Submissions Received X 100): 42% • Average number of reviews per paper: 2 • Total number of reviewers involved: 40 • Any additional info on review process: Plagiarism was checked through Turnitin. Papers were evaluated on the following parameters – Relevance to the conference, Contribution to academic debate, Originality, Structure of the paper, Standard of English, Appropriateness of the research/study method, Relevance and clarity of drawings, graphs and tables, appropriateness of abstract as a description of the paper, discussions and conclusions, reference list – adequate and correctly cited. The paper was accepted only if two review reports were satisfactory. • Contact person for queries (please include: name, affiliation, institutional email address) Dr.G.Geetha Advanced Computing Research Society geetha@advancedcomputingresearchsociety.org
Technological developments in the digital era have caused openness to various information to be more easily accessed and used negatively. This can open up opportunities for education actors to commit ...plagiarism. Overcoming and preventing plagiarism in higher education is not only the responsibility of higher education leaders, but also the responsibility of the academic community, including the library. Libraries cannot remain silent with issues related to plagiarism in the university environment. Libraries have a moral responsibility in fighting plagiarism and this is where libraries are challenged to be able to work together with the parent institution to make various efforts to overcome and prevent the practice of plagiarism. This study aims to find out how the policies taken by universities in preventing plagiarism and what efforts can be made by university libraries in their contribution to tackling and preventing plagiarism. This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. From the results of the study, researchers found various policy ideas carried out by universities in preventing plagiarism and various efforts that university libraries could do in preventing plagiarism.
