An in-depth analysis of the relationship between art and design, which led to the creation of 'pop'. Challenging accepted boundaries and definitions, the authors seek out various commonalities and ...points of connection between these two exciting areas.
Inspired by the recent success of buckling‐induced reconfigurable structures, a new class of deployable systems that harness buckling of curved beams upon a rotational input is proposed. First, ...experimental and numerical methods are combined to investigate the influence of the beam's geometric parameters on its non‐linear response. Then, it is shown that a wide range of deployable architectures can be realized by combining curved beams. Finally, the proposed principles are used to build deployable furniture such as tables and lamp shades that are flat/compact for transportation and storage, require simple or no assembly, and can be expanded by applying a simple rotational input.
Buckling of curved beams upon a rotational input is utilized to design and fabricate reconfigurable structures. Through numerical simulations, key geometric parameters governing the non‐linear response of the beams are identified. The results are applied to realize deployable furniture that are flat/compact for transportation and storage and can be deployed into functional shapes by applying a simple rotational input.
Pop culture, a culture produced in a commercial ecosystem, is often interpreted as a light, contemporary, and fun culture so that it is easily accepted and enjoyed by the public, especially ...teenagers. Korean Pop Culture, for example, extends its influence throughout the world, not only in Indonesia. K-pop has attracted the sympathy of young people, including Muslim youth at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Ponorogo. This study examines the perception of Muslim youth at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Ponorogo on Korean Pop Culture and its impact on Muslim youth at the school. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method by purposively selecting research subjects, namely Muslim youth students of MAN 2 Ponorogo who love Korean pop culture. This study shows that, firstly, the Muslim youth of man 2 Ponorogo perceives Korean Pop Culture as a symbol of novelty, trending, unique, colorful, combining various elements. Secondly, the Muslim youth of MAN 2 Ponorogo realize Korean Pop Culture has a positive and negative impact, which can eliminate Korean Pop Culture products that are not relevant to their identity as millennial teenagers and Indonesian Muslims.
•Abnormally enhanced nanoindentation displacement bursts (pop-ins) occur at elevated temperatures ranging from 150 °C to 250 °C, while the increased depth during the holding stage steadily increases ...with rising temperature.•The enhanced bursts exhibited Gaussian-like statistics instead of the well-reported bursts with power-law size distributions.•The abnormal displacement bursts originated from the heterogeneous nucleation of prismatic screw 〈a〉 dislocations due to the exhaustion of dislocation sources.•The activation volume is about 3b3, and the calculated activation stresses are G/26-G/14 at 150 °C, G/24-G/13 at 200 °C and G/31/-G/15 at 250 °C respectively.
The unveiling of temperature effects on the deformation behaviors of wrought magnesium (Mg) alloys is beneficial for optimizing the hot forming parameters of these alloys with limited room temperature (RT) formability. In the present work, we performed nanoindentations on individual grains of textured wrought AZ31 alloy along the normal direction (ND) from RT to 300 °C to investigate the intrinsic non-basal dislocation behaviors at various temperatures. Interestingly, we observed abnormally enhanced nanoindentation displacement bursts (pop-ins) at elevated temperatures ranging from 150 to 250 °C, which is beyond the general scenario that higher temperatures typically result in smoother plastic flow. The bursts exhibited Gaussian-like statistics, which differ from the well-reported bursts with power-law size distributions resulting from the destruction of jammed dislocation configurations. Through transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination of the microstructure beneath the indentation just after the burst, we found that the abnormal displacement bursts originated from the heterogeneous nucleation of prismatic screw 〈a〉 dislocations due to the exhaustion of dislocation sources within the specified temperature range.

The Cover Feature of the Research Article of J. Narasimha Moorthy and co‐workers, depicts the structure of a porous organic polymer endowed inherently with free carboxylic acid functionalities ...(Carboxy‐POP) and its macroscopic spherical topology. The POP with free carboxylic acid groups can be employed as a heterogeneous green catalyst for one‐pot synthesis of organic compounds. Application of this distinctive porous material for efficacious and environmentally sustainable synthesis of acridines and xanthenes is demonstrated. More information can be found in the Research Article by J. Narasimha Moorthy and co‐workers.
Retail has responded to the continuing shift in consumer preferences toward ephemerality and immediacy with the development of temporary experiential stores known as pop-ups. In the realm of ...experiential stores, research has identified retail and brand experience as affecting positive word of mouth (WoM). Surprisingly, however, studies have yet to consider pop-ups’ distinguishing feature of ephemerality or their main type of visitor, consumers with a high need for uniqueness (NFU). Building on five studies (two field studies, three experiments) and contributing to scarcity research, our results demonstrate the positive effect of an experiential store’s temporal scarcity for consumers and brands–namely, an enhanced brand experience. Moreover, our research corroborates our prediction of self-enhancement: For high-NFU consumers, brand experience translates into increased positive WoM when communicating with distant others. In contrast, when communicating with close others, the instinct of high-NFU customers to preserve their uniqueness does not affect positive WoM.
