Ogilvie-Thomson's volume of The Index of Middle English Prose (IMEP) on the Bodleian Library's Laudian collection, the text of Decem mandata appears in two other manuscripts in ...addition to MS Laud Misc. 656: According to Hanna, the multiple scribes of Westminster School MS 3 employ an East Midlands dialect, leading him to conclude that they were part of "that well-documented migration from the central East Midlands to London. ...considering that Proverbia Salomonis reflects the same style and rhetorical structure as the other texts, it seems likely to have been intended as part of the original sequence. ...the content of the texts seems relatively orthodox, though there are some subtle inferences that might suggest a certain reformist proclivity.28 It is significant to note, for instance, that there are no references to any of the sacraments, saints, or clerical orders; rather, there is a focus solely on scripture and the common people.
Reframes Polynesia and Melanesia through analysis of nineteenth-century travel writing In Pacific Possessions: The Pursuit of Authenticity in Nineteenth-Century Oceanian Travel Accounts, Chris J. ...Thomas expands the literary canon on Polynesia and Melanesia beyond the giants, such as Herman Melville and Jack London, to include travel narratives by British and American visitors. These accounts were widely read and reviewed when they first appeared but have largely been ignored by scholars. For the first time, Thomas defines these writings as a significant literary genre. Recovering these works allows us to reconceive of nineteenth-century Oceania as a vibrant hub of cultural interchange. Pacific Possessions recaptures the polyphony of voices that enlivened this space through the writing of these travelers, while also paying attention to their Oceanian interlocutors. Each chapter centers on a Pacific cultural marker, what Thomas refers to as each writer's 'possession' the Tongan tattoo, the Hawaiian hula, the Fijian cannibal fork, and Robert Louis Stevenson's cache of South Seas photographs. Thomas analyzes how westerners formed narratives around these objects and what those objects meant within nineteenth-century Oceanian cultures. He argues that the accounts served to shape a version of Oceanian authenticity that persists today. The profiled traveler-writers had complex experiences, at times promoting exoticized exaggerations of so-called authentic Polynesian and Melanesian cultures and at other times genuinely engaging in cultural exchange. However, their views were ultimately compromised by a western lens. In Thomas's words, 'the authenticity is at once celebrated and written over.'
This thesis in comparative literature explores the meanings of poetry beyond verse and the ways they influenced the creation of poetic effects in the prose of two early twentieth-century writers: ...Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) and the Italian essayist Emilio Cecchi (1884-1966). Both authors believe that poetry, as a quality independent from verse, can be conveyed through prose, but they explicitly distance themselves from the kind of writing referred to as prose poetry or poetic prose. By addressing the question of poetry in prose from the perspectives of these two writers, who worked in different languages, genres and contexts, this study proposes a new method to approach the elusive category of poetic style, without reducing it to a set of techniques and devices borrowed from verse, or to a generic quest for beauty and emotional suggestiveness. I reconstruct Woolf's and Cecchi's notions of poetic quality as time-bound and culturally specific ideas, emerging at the crossing between intellectual influences, the reception of older literary traditions, and personal creative associations. By analysing the two authors' prose through these lenses, I argue that for both of them engaging with poetry involves experimenting with multiple styles, where poetic and prosaic qualities are closely tied together and set in contrast in order to offer a double perspective on the topics treated or narrated. I identify different categories of poetic effects, classified according to their literary sources and/or their features: 'Romantic-lyrical' and 'dramatic-choral' in Woolf's novels, 'of contrast' in Cecchi's essays, and 'of pure form' in both authors. The thesis shows how Woolf's and Cecchi's ideas of poetry in prose strikingly overlap, particularly in associating poetry with an epiphanic feeling and an abstract design, but also stress different aspects of its broad spectrum, concluding that, to bring these specificities into focus, poetic effects in prose are best understood through cross-cultural enquiries.

This article makes an argument for the value of both replicable research and replication research in writing center studies. In their discussion of replicability, the authors argue that writing about ...empirical research so that this research can be replicated will improve the quality of communication in writing center studies whether or not replication studies are subsequently undertaken. The authors further provide for researchers specific guidance on how to create replicable studies, focusing on best practices for describing data sets and sampling, sharing surveys and interview protocols, detailing coding efforts, establishing infrastructure to share data sets, and writing about statistics. Further, the authors explain how replication studies would add new kinds of knowledge to writing center studies. The authors specify that the kinds of replication studies they wish to see should be distinguished from both the positivistic approach to replication taken in other, more quantitative fields and from a looser, iterative approach to building on previous research that has been advocated for within writing studies.
