In the extensive literary production of Sebastiano Vassalli (1941-2015), we can witness an evolution of his poetics from his initial formation within the avant-garde Gruppo 63 towards a more ...traditional prose. In this change of perspective, Vassalli's tendency to include in his narratives a documented attention to real historical events, within which his characters move, each following his own original destiny, played a fundamental role. The literary references, in Italy and abroad, from which Vassalli could draw are numerous and well known (Manzoni, Leopardi, Pirandello, Sciascia, Queneau, García Marquez...). On the strength of this methodology, Vassalli has been able to tell stories where the fulcrum of the plots always revolves around his interest in the various human types who have remained unchanged beyond historical periods and who face adverse events in a heroic way.
Technical prose is more than the meaning in the thought of the arrangement of the word, and uses a lot of rhetorical delusions to decorate the word. One of these linguistic and rhetorical delicacies ...is the guarantee of poetry during prose. In this paper, the names of the poets that their poems are quote in Kalileh and Demneh, and the semantic and content links of the quote lyrics in Kalileh and Demneh with the text are investigated. Nasr al-Lah Monshi was not defeated by word and his priority was meaning in the selection of the quote verses. He has specially looked at content and language in the selection of verses. Educational and wise thoughts, social sciences, religious and mystical teachings, fanatical approach, and subjective and thoughtful ideas are the main subjects that have linked the text with quote poetry. The authors suggest that other prose books should be investigated from this approach in order to clarify some of the links between poetry and prose in Persian literature, and the methods and techniques and hidden and obvious tips of the quote poetry in Persian prose should be critically analyzed and criticized.
With its point of departure in the frequently unfairly – and partly extremely critical – mentioning of Johannes Jørgensen’s so-called youthful novels and his other short texts – if there is a ...mentioning at all – the present article attempts at presenting a re-examination of these works. Furthermore, an attempt will be made to include a number of later, undeservedly ignored prose works in this re-examination. These texts, Den yderste Dag (1897), Vor Frue af Danmark (1900), Eva (1901) and Græs (1904), will be grouped together with his youthful works before and after 1900. Furthermore, the popular perception of Jørgensen’s static character delineation and almost monomaniac complex of themes which ignores a strong dynamic element in these works, will be relativized and the refined structuring of the narrative as well as the linguistic and stylistic accomplishments will be highlighted.
Med udgangspunkt i den ofte stedmoderlige og til dels yderst kritiske omtale – hvis denne overhovedet er til stede – forsøges her en nyvurdering af Johannes Jørgensens såkaldte ungdomsromaner og -fortællinger, og der argumenteres for en inddragelse af en række senere ufortjent ignorerede prosaværker, Den yderste Dag (1897), Vor Frue af Danmark (1900), Eva (1901) og Græs (1904), der kan henregnes til ungdomsproduktionen før og omkr. 1900 og ligeledes nyvurderes. Desuden relativeres den gængse opfattelse af Jørgensens statiske persontegning og nærmest monomane tematik, der overser et stærkt dynamisk element, og der peges på forfatterens omhyggelige narrative strukturering samt sproglige og stilistiske mesterskab.
In this paper, we share with the reader our individual and collective experience of a reading circle organised during the pandemic, at a time of social distancing. The collective reading allowed 'us' ...to become-with other humans, non-humans, and more-than-humans with the materiality of different bodies. The reading circle allowed individual vulnerability to be shared in a process of becoming-together a multiple 'Author' who authored a 'Composition'. We thus propose to the reader a Composition, in which we experiment with an embodied process of writing, where a drawing and words are mingled in-between poesy and prose. In their being intertwined, reading- and writing-together enabled a different 'academicity', emerging as an alternative to an individualistic experience of the neo-liberal Academia.
Milton Friedman's presidential address, “The Role of Monetary Policy,” which was delivered 50 years ago in December 1967 and published in the March 1968 issue of the American Economic Review, is ...unusual in the outsized role it has played. What explains the huge influence of this work, merely 17 pages in length? One factor is that Friedman addresses an important topic. Another is that it is written in simple, clear prose, making it an ideal addition to the reading lists of many courses. But what distinguishes Friedman's address is that it invites readers to reorient their thinking in a fundamental way. It was an invitation that, after hearing the arguments, many readers chose to accept. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to view Friedman's 1967 AEA presidential address as marking a turning point in the history of macroeconomic research. Our goal here is to assess this contribution, with the benefit of a half-century of hindsight. We discuss where macroeconomics was before the address, what insights Friedman offered, where researchers and central bankers stand today on these issues, and (most speculatively) where we may be heading in the future.
The 1st duke of Hamilton played an important role in the politics and life of Britain in the first half of the seventeenth century. Born in 1606 into the Scottish ancient noble family of Hamilton, ...who enjoyed a blood connection with the royal Stuarts, he was well placed to take full advantage of the union of the crowns in 1603 which opened up substantial opportunities in England and Ireland. The centre of that new world was the recently established Stuart court in London. Following his father, Hamilton entered that courtly world in 1620 at the age of fourteen and was executed on a scaffold outside Whitehall Palace in March 1649. During that period, he was involved in some of the most momentous events in British history, the wars of the three kingdoms and the collapse of the Stuart monarchy. His story casts a distinctive light on the period and allows a fresh account of the slowly unfolding crisis that saw an anointed king put on trial and publicly executed. The book is structured in three parts. Part one is a cluster of five studies concentrating on events in Scotland, England, Ireland and mainland Europe prior to 1638. Part two presents three chapters on Hamilton’s role in the three kingdom crisis between 1637-1643. Part three covers the remarkable final phase in Hamilton’s life detailing the Engagement, defeat at Preston and his execution in London. This biography of the 1st duke cuts a unique and distinctive path through one of the most heavily researched periods in the history of Britain. In a period of kingly personal rule, Hamilton stood at the shoulder of the king, cajoling, persuading and ultimately failing to steer him away from civil war in his kingdoms. The main source for this account is the Hamilton Papers brought into the public domain in the last few decades and used extensively for the first time.
The article discusses the main premises of Anna Swoboda’s monograph La Prose de Ken Bugul : entre le réel et le surnaturel. Swoboda assumes that the key to deciphering the characteristics of Ken ...Bugul’s prose is the interpenetration of the two dimensions present in the work of this contemporary Senegalese writer: the real and the supernatural. The book analyzes the fantastic, marvelous and uncanny elements that constitute the supernatural aspect of Bugul’s hybrid prose, as well as examines the fragmentation and multifaceted identity of the autofictional female protagonist (in the part devoted to the real elements). The eclectic methodology combines Western and African research on non-mimetic fiction with postcolonial and feminist theories.
