This volume is an attempt to paint a picture of the history of natural resources and mining in Transylvania, through a few selected examples arranged in a chronological order, up to the point in time ...mentioned in the title. It relies on a scientific approach, but also tries to give an account that is easy to read and understand. Some of the chapters identify the locations of medieval mines that were known from documents but had no precise geographic positions; others call the attention to the fact that, taking into account their characteristics, some modern-day mines were also active during medieval times. The book guides the reader through the adventurous history of learning about the geology of energy resources (natural gas, coal) in Transylvania. In the process of doing that, it also highlights ideas and concepts that were introduced here for the first time in the history of science, such as the industrial use of natural gas, pioneering research on single-celled fossils, and the clarification of stratigraphic controversies through the use of paleontology. The effect of the scientific, economic, societal, and political context on the exploration and exploitation of raw materials – and mineral waters as well – is also discussed.By describing the work of a few outstanding Transylvanian geologists (e.g., Franz Herbich, Gyula Halaváts, and Mór Pálfy), we also highlight that, despite all the difficulties of doing scientific work in a small and often disadvantaged country, thanks to these scientists, this region was able to keep up with, or even lead, the scientific advances in Europe and the rest of the world. In some cases we also discuss their contributions in areas outside of the geosciences.By summarizing and cataloguing those publications of these researchers that are relevant to Transylvania, we also hope to aid further studies in the history of geoscience in this region.
To determine the state of sustainable tourism development in the protected natural areas of AP Vojvodina, it is important to analyze and correlate certain indicators of sustainable tourism. It is ...also important to analyze the opinion of visitors according to the selected protected natural areas, from the perspective of experiences and potential suggestions for specific interventions, to improve the state of natural values and improve the area protection. As a final result, it can provide significant benefits for all participants of sustainable tourism development. This paper analyzed and presented the results of visitor responses regarding 5 selected protected natural areas on the territory of AP Vojvodina. These areas represent a significant sample for analysis and the results of the research can influence the overall assessment of the sustainable tourism development of the Province. Using the correlation method of obtained average values of estimated sustainability indicators, the relation of these indicators to sustainable tourism was defined. The results obtained can influence the constitution of proposals for the improvement of the natural values of these areas through the proper implementation of nature protection. By enhancing these natural values, benefits are provided to all participants in sustainable tourism development.
This article analyses the Roman viticulture in Hasta Regia colony, southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, as an ideal place to model historical and economic conditioning factors of this activity. We ...propose a model that includes an analysis of the territory, the “Riparian” resources necessary for the vineyard, the conditioning factors of the ancient vineyard and finally the economic implications that derive from it. The method allows us to get closer to the management of this economic reality, as well as being able to check whether the various estimates are correct.

Bathymetric surveys of Gelionys and Žaliasis Lakes (located in the Baltic Uplands, Aukštadvaris Regional Park, Lithuania) were carried out on April 21, 2020, from a boat with attached Lowrance HDI ...SKIMMER XDCR transducer (200 kHz), Simrad GO5 chartplotter and Lowrance Point-1 GPS/Glonass receiver. At the same time, the shorelines of the lakes were revised. Average distance between profiles was ~10 m and depth measurement accuracy up to 2–5 cm. Accuracy of water surface elevation measurement using GNSS receiver Topcon Hiper SR up to 1–2 cm. Later, detailed (0.5 × 0.5 m) digital lake bottom models (DEM) were developed, bathymetric plans of the lakes were created, the main morphometric features were calculated, the boundaries and area of the lake catchments were defined, and the physical-geographical characteristics of the lakes were described based on field observations and various data. Gelionys and Žaliasis are small lakes of glaciokarst origin. Gelionys Lake is oval-shaped while shape of Žaliasis Lake is closer to the circle. Despite small surface area the lakes are quite deep. According to survey data, the surface area of Gelionys Lake is 4.79 ha, water surface elevation 216.1 m a.s.l., maximum depth 19.8 m, mean depth 6.0 m, volume 288.3 thousands m3 , catchment area 71 ha. The surface area of Žaliasis Lake is 2.14 ha, water surface elevation 120.9 m a.s.l., maximum depth 15.84 m, mean depth 5.7 m, volume 122.2 thousands m3 , catchment area 60 ha. During the observation period (from May of 2018 to September of 2020), the annual amplitude of water level fluctuations in Gelionys Lake reached up to 0.47 m, and in Žaliasis Lake up to 0.33 m.
The article is devoted to the etymological analysis of toponyms (mainly hydronyms) of old Baltic origin, which are localized near the Upper Volga lakes and to the west of them – up to the sources of ...the Pola and Western Dvina rivers. In this microregion, which is a square of territory with sides of approximately 60 km, about 60 toponymic baltisms have been discovered and analyzed. The listed baltisms are the names of rivers, lakes, villages and localities.
Rural tourism is one of the alternative forms of tourism attracting an increasing number of tourists. Serbia has great potential for the development of rural tourism, which has not been properly ...activated. To better understand the attitude of tourists towards rural tourism, an online questionnaire has been made. Based on the answers, we made clusters and market segmentation. The questionnaire contains 18 psychographic variables (travel philosophy, travel motive and personal values) towards rural tourism. The survey covered 300 examinees. Using the Categorical analysis of the main components (CatPCA), the segmentation of the tourists has been made. Three segments of tourists have been formed according to their similar attitudes towards rural tourism. With the Mann Whitney U test, the attitudes of male and female examinees have been compared. The Kruskal-Wallis test has been used to show the connection between the motives of spending holidays in the rural areas, and the distance of the rural destination, as well as the attractiveness of the rural tourism to certain age categories. A typology of tourists in rural tourism is proposed, to assist managers involved in rural tourism to understand the needs of different target groups and apply appropriate strategies and management.
In the world where significant differentiation and changes are experienced in tourism approaches, geotourism is the leading approach representing this change. Turkey geotourism in the world has a ...rich and diverse source of value compared to many countries. Among these values, İncesu Canyon (Çorum) and its surroundings in Central Anatolia draw attention. The aim of the study is to reveal the natural, cultural and historical geotourism resource values of İncesu Canyon and its surroundings, to determine how these values can be used with a geotourism approach and thus to present the area as a geotourism goal. For this purpose, literature review was conducted, field studies were conducted in the field, and interviews consisting of open-ended questions were made with the local people. Findings obtained as a result of the research show that İncesu Canyon and its immediate surroundings have favorable resource values for the development of geotourism. The field has an important potential thanks to its geosite density, as well as having scientific importance. The land surrounding the canyon BC. Its historical past dating back to 10-12 thousand years has left important geological, archaeological and geographic traces on the region, and most of these traces have survived to the present day as a geosite value. With this feature, the area offers very attractive opportunities in terms of geotourism. Especially adjacent to the canyon, the ancient city of Sapinuva is a unique resource value that has entered the world heritage and is an important tourism destination on a global scale. Incesu Canyon and its immediate surroundings arouse curiosity with its unexplored history and natural character, attracting visitors from different countries of the world. The area, where local cultures are still maintained in a traditional way, has a structure that can be the scene of an important geotourism flow with the implementation of the concept of locality in geotourism.
