Resilience to high impact low probability events is becoming of growing concern, for instance to address the impacts of extreme weather on critical infrastructures worldwide. However, there is, as ...yet, no clear methodology or set of metrics to quantify resilience in the context of power systems and in terms of both operational and infrastructure integrity. In this paper, the resilience "trapezoid" is therefore introduced which extends the resilience "triangle" that is traditionally used in existing studies, in order to consider the different phases that a power system may experience during an extreme event. The resilience trapezoid is then quantified using time-dependent resilience metrics that are specifically introduced to help capture the critical system degradation and recovery features associated to the trapezoid for different temporal phases of an event. Further, we introduce the concepts of operational resilience and infrastructure resilience to gain additional insights in the system response. Different structural and operational resilience enhancement strategies are then analyzed using the proposed assessment framework, considering single and multiple severe windstorm events that hit the 29-bus Great Britain transmission network test case. The results clearly highlight the capability of the proposed framework and metrics to quantify power system resilience and relevant enhancement strategies.
The occurrence of large-scale disturbances is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world. As a consequence of this trend, a primary concern of today's power system is to enhance its ...resilience against low-probability, high-impact events. In this regard, microgrids, as the smart grid's building blocks, offer promising approaches toward achieving higher levels of distribution system resilience by accommodating and integrating various distributed energy resources. Accordingly, microgrid-based techniques have been the focus of a growing body of research seeking a more resilient power system. These methods mainly rely on the stand-alone operation of microgrids to supply loads locally in case of extreme events. The objective of this paper is to present an updated comprehensive review of the literature on two main categories of microgrid-based resilience enhancement approaches in distribution systems: 1) optimal microgrid formation and 2) optimal microgrid scheduling and energy management. Distinctive from other review papers, this article systematically surveys the research studies under multiple well-sectionalized features, such as various technologies, techniques, models, constraints, and concepts for each of the above two categories. These features include but are not limited to networked microgrids, demand response programs and electric vehicles scheduling, multi-energy microgrids, dynamic optimization schemes, control schemes, communication resilience, hybrid microgrids, and mobile energy resources. Additionally, a comprehensive introduction to resilience definitions and assessment methods, microgrid components, architectures, and control schemes, as well as, sources of uncertainty is provided.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to review existing literature at the intersection of resilience and entrepreneurship. It identifies six scholarly conversations, each of which draws on distinct ...notions of resilience and entrepreneurship. Based on those conversations, shortcomings in the existing literature are discussed and avenues for future research are outlined.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic multi-disciplinary review of 144 papers that are categorized into six scholarly conversations to build the foundation for a critical discussion of each line of inquiry.
Findings
This paper identifies six conversations or research streams at the intersection of entrepreneurship and resilience: resilience as traits or characteristics of entrepreneurial firms or individuals, resilience as a trigger for entrepreneurial intentions, entrepreneurial behavior as enhancing organizational resilience, entrepreneurial firms fostering macro-level (regions, communities, economies) resilience, resilience in the context of entrepreneurial failure, and resilience as a process of recovery and transformation. The review revealed these publications imprecisely define constructs and use a limited amount of the extant scholarship on both entrepreneurship and resilience. Future research should take a more holistic approach to explore entrepreneurship and resilience from a multi-level and longitudinal perspective, especially in the context of socio-ecological sustainability.
Originality/value
This paper incorporates insights on resilience and entrepreneurship across academic disciplines to show how future contributions could benefit by incorporating research from other fields. In doing so, it provides a starting point for more nuanced discussions around the interrelationships between the different conversations and the role entrepreneurs can play in promoting a positive, long-term trajectory for a socio-ecological system.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a profound impact on organization and delivery of care. The challenges faced by healthcare organizations in dealing with the pandemic have intensified interest in the ...concept of resilience. While effort has gone into conceptualising resilience, there has been relatively little work on how to evaluate organizational resilience. This paper reports on an extensive review of approaches to resilience measurement and assessment in empirical healthcare studies, and examines their usefulness for researchers, policymakers and healthcare managers.
Various databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL (EBSCO host), Cochrane CENTRAL (Wiley), CDSR, Science Citation Index, and Social Science Citation Index) were searched from January 2000 to September 2021. We included quantitative, qualitative and modelling studies that focused on measuring or qualitatively assessing organizational resilience in a healthcare context. All studies were screened based on titles, abstracts and full text. For each approach, information on the format of measurement or assessment, method of data collection and analysis, and other relevant information were extracted. We classified the approaches to organizational resilience into five thematic areas of contrast: (1) type of shock; (2) stage of resilience; (3) included characteristics or indicators; (4) nature of output; and (5) purpose. The approaches were summarised narratively within these thematic areas.
Thirty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. We identified a lack of consensus on how to evaluate organizational resilience in healthcare, what should be measured or assessed and when, and using what resilience characteristic and indicators. The measurement and assessment approaches varied in scope, format, content and purpose. Approaches varied in terms of whether they were prospective (resilience pre-shock) or retrospective (during or post-shock), and the extent to which they addressed a pre-defined and shock-specific set of characteristics and indicators.
A range of approaches with differing characteristics and indicators has been developed to evaluate organizational resilience in healthcare, and may be of value to researchers, policymakers and healthcare managers. The choice of an approach to use in practice should be determined by the type of shock, the purpose of the evaluation, the intended use of results, and the availability of data and resources.

Despite the existence of a large body of literature on the topic of supply chain (SC) resilience, comprehensive empirical reviews of the antecedents and outcomes of resilience are limited. The ...purpose of this study is to develop a theoretical framework and carry out a meta-analysis of extant empirical studies to investigate the relationship between resilience, its antecedents and firm performance. The impact of three clusters of SC capabilities (organisational capability, SC flexibility, SC integration) on firm resilience (proactive, reactive or dynamic) is examined, and that of the impact of firm resilience on performance. We find that the overall impact of resilience on firm performance is strongly significant. However, in terms of financial performance, the correlation magnitude shows a weaker to moderate effect. In addition, for non-financial performance, the resilience impact is stronger. Furthermore, the analysis helps clarify some of the existing inconsistencies in the literature regarding the relationship between SC capabilities, firm resilience and performance by highlighting the moderating role played by resilience operationalisation, industry affiliation and national culture. The study contributes to theory on resilience and assists practitioners in developing resilient strategies for organisations and SCs.
Given the demanding nature of its mission, the collective units of the Army, not just individual Soldiers, need to be able to withstand and adapt to a wide range of challenges. Therefore, it is ...important to be able to effectively assess resilience at the team-level and to understand the factors that can enable or diminish it. This article describes the development of a construct valid and psychometrically-sound measure of team resilience - the Team Resilience Scale (TRS). A theoretical framework of team resilience and related constructs is introduced. We then summarize the procedures for developing the TRS and related constructs, providing evidence of the content validity of the TRS. Finally, we assess the psychometric soundness and construct validity of the TRS in two Army field studies. Our analyses support the convergent validity of items and indicate that the measure can be used to examine three first-order dimensions of resilience (i.e., physical, affective, and cognitive) or as a single overall resilience composite. Results show the TRS was positively related to team performance in both samples and it co-varied with stressors and team actions. Practical recommendations for use of the measure and suggestions for future research are offered.

This paper meets the mentioned objectives to discuss grid resilience and reliability, their quantification metrics, and their enhancement techniques in detail. The paper also categorizes the United States into four tiers based on grid reliability and grid resilience using Monte Carlo Simulations and the discussed metrics. Two novel terminologies named resilience risk factor and grid infrastructure density are propounded in this work, which will serve as vital parameters to determine grid resilience.

Existing research on resilience varies across fields on analysis and presents scattered and diverse definitions. For example, the literature suggests that resilience in organisations is influenced by ...factors of various levels, occurring at both the individual and organisational level. However, there are currently few insights into how these different levels of analysis interact with each other. Therefore, focusing on resilience in the context of entrepreneurship, this paper aims to explore the relationship between the employee-level resilience dimensions (cognitive, behavioural and contextual) and entrepreneurs’ perceived performance, and the moderating role of entrepreneur resilience. A survey has been conducted with 195 entrepreneurs managing small family firms. Results confirm the hypothesis that the dimensions of employee-level resilience affect performance positively when the entrepreneur has a strong propensity towards personal resilience. Entrepreneurs may use these insights to increase awareness of their actions towards achieving organisational resilience and to implement practices aimed at increasing employee-level resilience.

Psychological resilience among troops can be enhanced through relatively simple interventions. Globally, various Armed Forces have successfully implemented modules for building psychological ...resilience. Programs from different countries are listed, evaluated and their underpinnings explored. Recommendations for a variety of feasible and culturally acceptable interventions targeted at individuals, families, units, community and organizations in the Indian context have been made; ranging from mindfulness training to embedded combat psychologists. Interventions are likely to succeed if integrated within existing basic training and unit/career programs.
