This article operationalizes Bernard Stiegler's conceptualization of the Neganthropocene, expanding his consideration of thinking (penser) as care (panser) or pænsée beyond the anthropo-techne ...limitations of his thought through the notion of a posthuman asignifying semiotics. It begins with an overview of Stiegler's notion of the Neganthropocene as a mode of epochal thought building towards noesis and pænsée with the use of epiphylogenetic and exosomatic memory systems. Here, Stiegler's approach is exposed as anthropo-techne centric, which in turn limits the possibilities of noesis. Turning to the work of C.S. Peirce, Gilles Deleuze, and Felix Guattari, an alternative formulation of epiphylogenetic memory is provided through the interrelation of trees and forests: in particular the coastal redwood (sequoia sempervirens). This asignifying semiotics provides the criteria for infusing Stiegler's epiphylogenesis beyond the human. In turn, Stiegler is brought closer to the theories of entangled care presented in the work of theorists such as María Puig De La Bellacasa and Natasha Myers, allowing for a more dynamic design process.
Various scholars have defined the term semiotics according to their understanding but with a unifying central meaning which is the study of signs. Two important aspects of semiotics are syntagm and ...paradigm. The organization of signs by chain is referred to as syntagm, while by choice it is referred to as paradigm. According to Hodge & Tripp (1986), as far as syntagmatic structures are concerned, texts are examined from three different angles or variables space, time, and continuity. Moreover, in film the interpretations of individual, shots depend on both paradigmatic analysis (comparing it, not necessarily, with the use of alternative kinds of shots) and syntagmatic analysis (comparing it with preceding and following shots). This paper, applies the concept of Syntagm and Paradigm given by Hodge and Tripp to analyse the structure of two films from Nigeria’s film industries i.e. Kanywood and Nollywood industries.
This article analyzes the discursive traces of the constant traits and the meaning of the archetypal figure of the Werewolf in «Throat of a Black Kitten», story as part of the book Octahedron (1974), ...by the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar (1914-1984). To solve this research purpose, the classification criteria and the theoretical assumptions of several specialists of the fantastic genre were used: Todorov and Campra in the semiotic circuit; Roas, King and Vax in the fictional dimension; and Jackson and Jung in the codes on the enunciation of alterity. Likewise, fundamental concepts were used by researchers from other fields of human knowledge, such as psychoanalysis and anthropology, in order to unlock the subject of lycanthropy as a paradigmatic image of metaphysical horror in Cortazar's fantastic literature.
Reformulations in multimodal discourses: the case of TEDx talks
. This paper falls within in a larger research framework dedicated to multimodal reformulations (MR) in academic discourses. It is intended to describe the relationships between three semiotic channels: speech (S1 as “first Semiotic System”), co-speech gesture (S2) and visual supports (S3) as

and

. The aim is to investigate how MR are used in the discourse construction and in its cohesion. MR are examined within an internal perspective, that is, each channel (S1-S2-S3) for itself and within a cross-channel perspective from one channel to another (links S1/S2, S1/S3, S2/S3 and S1/S2/S3). The analysis process occurs in several stages: 1) tracking of the MR discourse parts and of the channels concerned, 2) annotating the data, 3) analyzing (qualitatively and quantitatively) the MR and of their crossing points and 4) identifying some paradigms of MR uses (a continuum between discourses without any MR and discourses with a wide range of MR at the three levels). Unlike a common belief in the field, I assume that the three channels are not two (or three) different simultaneous discourses. Rather, the linearity (of S1 on the one hand and of S3 on the other) and the simultaneity of the three channels (S1-S2-S3) overlap in order to construct one unique but plurisemiotic discourse.
Culture and Explosion is the English translation of the final book written by legendary semiotician Juri Lotman. The volume demonstrates, with copious examples, how culture influences the way that ...humans experience "reality". Lotman's renowned erudition is showcased in a host of well-chosen illustrations from history, literature, art and right across the humanities. Now appearing in English for the very first time, the volume is made accessible to students and researchers in semiotics, cultural/literary studies and Russian studies worldwide, as well as anyone with an interest in understanding contemporary intellectual life.
The presence of semiotic theories in the Brazilian literature on information and documentation is identified and discussed. The results show that Peirce's semiotics, despite its recent appearance on ...Documentation, has been relatively consistent and dominant in the semiotic studies produced in the discipline. Thus, semiotic theories are present in the theoretical composition of the Brazilian Information Science. Also, the analyzed studies show a paradigm shift from the linguistic perspective towards the general semiotics approach.
