Black African refugee communities are a relatively recent addition to the Australia landscape. Between 2001 and 2007, over 5000 refugees from various African nations resettled in Queensland. There ...are very few data about African refugee settlement geography in Australia and no previous study delineating African refugee settlement within the State of Queensland. This research addresses the knowledge gap by examining the geographic distribution and secondary migration patterns of eight African refugee communities in Southeast Queensland. The research adopted a multi-method approach, mapping quantitative data from an existing secondary database and comparing these to qualitative primary data to determine geographical distribution. Additional qualitative data were used to establish secondary migration patterns of the case study communities. Results show noticeable discrepancies between existing secondary datasets and primary data collected from the communities. These inconsistencies are significant because settlement service providers who use the secondary data to budget, plan and deliver essential settlement services might be underestimating the size of the African communities and missing some settlement locations altogether. The results also reveal a tension between the main socio-cultural forces of concentration and housing forces of dispersion that are driving secondary migration in the communities. A policy recommendation to mitigate the potentially negative effects of residential dispersion on settlement outcomes includes the strategic location of service hubs in key suburbs, such as Moorooka, to which the communities are already drawn.
The settlements in Turkey are various in terms of their shapes, types and materials. As an countryside type of housing, dams are found in eastern and southeastern Anatolia as well as the Central ...Anatolia and Aegean Regions of Turkey. Such types of housing, namely the dams, vary in terms of their roots, their durations of usage, the economic activities there and their physical structures according to the effect of the geographical region in which they are located.
The way the concept of dam is used varies from a region to another, meaning some different things in each. It is therefore that the geography scholars in our country use this concept to mean different types of settlement. Naturally, there are significant differences between the dams in the Central Anatolia and the ones in the other regions.
Our field of research in this study, the dam settlements is a result of the economic activities led in the region and bears a characteristic and original quality for Turkey, particularly the eastern Anatolia. This article deals with the dam settlements in Turkey and specifically analyses the dam settlements around the city of Malatya as representative of the ones in the eastern Anatolia, trying on the other hand to account for its significance in the rapidly-changing economic structure of Turkey.
The mid-fourteenth century map of Britain known as the 'Gough' map is the earliest extant depiction of the island in geographically recognizable form. Hitherto, however, interest in the road or route ...patterns marked on the map has meant that the map's extraordinarily rich settlement geography has not received the attention it merits and that, consequently, the point of the map may have been missed. The availability of a digital scan of the map coupled with the use of Geographical Information System (GIS) software provides the opportunity for a new look at the Gough map and the questions it poses. Attention in this article is directed to the settlement geography it shows, and in particular to the map's 654 cities, towns, villages, castles and monasteries. Their geographical positions as given on the manuscript are compared with their modern equivalents to shed light on some of the basic questions-the map's place of origin, the purpose or purposes for which it was made and the circumstances of its production-that have posed such a challenge for scholars. Our preliminary conclusion is that the key to understanding the original primary role of the Gough map lies in its accurate but selective depiction of the settlement geography of fourteenth-century Britain.

The evaluate the appropriateness for case study, first, we draw a comparison between requisitioned settlements and others in folkways. Accordingly, there are really not much difference between two kinds of settlements. Second, we trace requisitioned settlements' history of sacred spots and colonial morphology. Results are followings; 1.Inhabitants has been regarded hilly land as a sacred cow. 2. Settlement's meeting house has been recognized as important facilities. 3. 'Utaki' and other Okinawa's sacred spots has been treasured, but change in shape and quality. 4. The hierarchy between head family and cadet family is decreesing. 5.
