The present article offers an analysis of the use of symbolism in the books of Daniel and Revelation. Thus, the first section of the study evaluates the degree of thematic unity which may be said to exist between the two books (given their common literary genre). Secondly, the article explores the different roles which symbolism plays within the two books. Finally, a concluding section brings together the findings of the study, indicating that despite the complex symbolism of Daniel and Revelation, it is plausible to speak of these books (individually and together) as having a unifying message which could be described as the victory of good over evil or, more precisely, the sovereignty of God in a world where evil seems to prevail. At the same time, this unifying message can take a wide variety of distinctive meanings for specific groups and for specific settings.
Every natural symbol - derived from blood, breath or excrement - carries a social meaning and this work focuses on the ways in which any one culture makes its selections from body symbolism. Each ...person treats their body as an image of society and the author examines the varieties of ritual and symbolic expression and the patterns of social ritual in which they are embodied.Natural Symbols is a book about religion and it concerns our own society at least as much as any other. It has stimulated new insights into religious and political movements and has provoked re-appraisals of current progressive orthodoxies in many fields. As a classic, it represents a work of anthropology in its widest sense, exploring themes such as the social meaning of natural symbols and the image of the body in society which are now very much in vogue in anthropology, sociology and cultural studies. In this reissue and with a new Introduction, Natural Symbols will continue to appeal to all students of anthropology, sociology and religion.
Among the creation of geomorphological maps the data collection of elements and features is one of the most important steps. The most relevant information to be collected are not only their position ...(geolocalization) but also their classification and properties according to the official encoding: within this context the Italian National Geologic Service (SGN) set up data collection and data storing standards through a focused documentation, the “I Quaderni” (series III), n.4 e n.10. In this paper we describe a new system to collect these kind of data directly on the field through the most commonly used tablets and smartphones. This system is based on an ESRI Geodatabase Enterprise installed on a server, an ArcGIS Online account and the ESRI Collector App for smartphones. Data collected by operators on the field are directly sent to the Geodatabase on server using mobile internet connection; data structure and format follow the national standards, so they are ready to be added into a geomorphological map.

In this paper, we explore how the emotions of eco‐anxiety and eco‐anger can be perceived as potentially constructive responses to the climate crisis. We examine the context in which these emotions ...are experienced and expressed in light of the relationship between human beings and Nature. We argue that these eco‐emotions are both visceral and numinous, and that this dual characteristic is critical when determining how best to respond to eco‐anxiety and eco‐anger. We propose that a suitable approach to this challenge is to draw from the imagination and the symbolic domain, and we offer personal reflections on what this process may look like.
The aim of this article is to outline the path of growth and development that proceeds from the icon to the cultural icon, defining its semiotic status and describing the specificities of its ...formation. The cultural icon is, from the semiotic point of view, a symbolic hypoicon generated in the symbolic way within a specific sub-culture. Cultural icons can reach a higher level of brand awareness and they permit heritage marketing actions.
Texts with the elements of mythic language are often those in which symbolic values are found and the transcribed and hidden meanings in everything which seems quite commonly and daily. The motives in artistic and folk fairy tales are often attributed with means of one dimensionality, but in the selective use of these motifs there are hidden values and significance which can be interpreted through detailed research and understanding the meaning context of fairy tales. This paper is based on the idea that the author of the Story of Long Ago in her fairy tales used motifs and meanings spectrum which is applied to the flora of Slavic mythology. The use of specific specimens of flora carries symbolic and meaningful functions within which that can be detected by studying the corpus of mythical motifs and elements that were inherited in Slavic mythology and ethnobotanics.
