The larvae of Protegira songi Chen & Zhang are notorious defoliator specifically infesting the medicinal plant Eucommia ulmoides Oliver. In insects, Odorant binding proteins (OBPs) and chemosensory proteins (CSPs) are highly expressed in olfactory organs and play essential roles in perceiving female pheromone and host volatiles by binding and transporting odorant compounds. In this study, 17 OBPs and 16 CSPs were identified from P. songi by transcriptome analysis. Sequence alignment indicated that PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs share no identity with each other in protein sequence. The overall structures of PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs are mainly constructed by α-helix bundles and loops. But the distribution of conserved cysteine residues and arrangement of α-helix are varied between PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs. Putative ligand binding cavities were found in these predicted protein structures. Expression profiles of PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs in adults and larvae were determined by RT-PCR which showed that 16 PsonOBPs and 11 PsonCSPs were expressed in adult antennae or/and larval head. PsonGOBPs, PsonPBPs, PsonOBP5, PsonOBP7, and PsonCSP6 were preferentially expressed in olfactory associated tissues. Our results suggest that the PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs that contain ligand cavity and are highly enriched in olfactory tissues may play roles in chemosensory perception of P. songi, and the transcriptome data may facilitate the studies on the olfactory mechanism of P. songi specifically choosing E. ulmoides as host.
The complete mitochondrial genome of the perlodid stonefly, Filchneria songi Chen,
2019
was sequenced and analyzed. This double strand, circular molecule is 16,028 bp in length with an A + T content ...of 70.1%, and contains 13 PCGs, 22 tRNA genes, and two rRNA genes. A 1099-bp long control region was detected, with a high A + T content of 81.9%. Gene arrangement was conserved in the mitogenome of F. songi. Most PCGs use standard start codons and ended with complete stop codons. The phylogenetic analysis supported that F. songi was closely related with species of Perlodes Banks,
1903
.
Neoblastobasis Kuznetsov & Sinev, a genus of the family Blastobasidae, has been known with three species in Korea. In this study, a new species of the genus, Neoblastobasis songi Park, sp. nov., is ...described, and N. camelliae is newly recorded in Korea. A key for the species and a tentative catalog of the genus in Korea are provided.
Protegira songi
is a monophagous moth feeding on the Chinese protected tree of
Eucommia ulmoides
and has become a main defoliator of this rare tree. We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of ...the
P. songi
. The genome is 15,410 bp long with an A+T content of 79.6%. There are 37 typical animal mitochondrial genes, 13 protein-
coding
genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA and 2 rRNA genes and A+T-rich region. The tRNA gene
trnM
is rearranged to the upstream of the
trnl-trnQ-trnM
cluster compared with the putative ancestral arrangement of insects. The A+T-region is located between
rrnS
and
trnM
with a length of 340 bp and A+T content of 93.24%. Addition to the A+T-rich region, non-coding sequences of the mtDNA genome harbored 15 intergenic spacers. Phylogenetic tree based on the 10 complete mitochondrial genome sequences of closely related moth species accords well with the morphological phylogenetic analysis.
Divisional morphogenesis in the freshwater spirotrichous ciliate, Trichototaxis songiChen et al., 2007, was investigated. The main morphogenetic events are characterised as follows: (1) the parental ...oral apparatus is completely renewed by the independently formed oral primordium in the proter; (2) the oral primordium in the opisthe is formed on the cell surface; (3) several left cirri of the midventral pairs participate in the formation of the oral primordium in the opisthe; (4) FVT-anlage I forms the leftmost pair of the bicorona; (5) the macronuclear nodules fuse into many masses rather than a single or branched mass as described in most pseudokeronopsids; and (6) usually, two marginal anlagen develop within each left marginal row separately. However, the number of left marginal anlagen is highly variable, even differing between the proter and opisthe of the same divider. The increase in the number of left marginal anlagen is by de novo generation of small anlagen to the left of the intrakinetal left marginal anlage, whereas the decrease in number is by resorption of the old marginal row(s). We posit that Trichototaxis is an intermediate form between the Pseudourostylidae and Pseudokeronopsidae as it shares morphogenetic features with both. Additionally, as in Uroleptopsis (Uroleptopsis), FVT-anlage I forms the leftmost pair of the bicorona in Trichototaxis indicating these genera may be closely related.
Zhao, T., Mayr, G., Wang, M. & Wang, W., 19.01.2015. A trogon-like arboreal bird from the early Eocene of China. Alcheringa 39, xxx-xxx. ISSN 0311-5518
We describe a partial skeleton of a new ...arboreal bird, Foshanornis songi gen. et sp. nov., from the early Eocene Buxin Formation of Guangdong, China. The new species shows some overall resemblances to trogons (Trogoniformes) and also potentially exhibits an incipiently heterodactyl foot. However, several key traits are distinct from trogons, especially the morphology of the distal tarsometatarsus. Irrespective of its phylogenetic affinities, the new fossil is the first record of an arboreal bird from the Paleogene of China, and Asia in general.
