Accurate predictions of the hydrogen permeation flux were possible only when the functional dependence of ionic/electronic conductivity on both hydrogen and oxygen partial pressure was known. Cilj rada: prikazati nove metode intervencijskog liječenja u Referentnom centru. Bolesnici i metode: Prikazani su slučajevi od 1. srpnja 2018. do 1. srpnja 2022. u kojih je učinjena nova procedura, ...neovisno o dobi i spolu. U analizu su uključeni svi pacijenti kojima je učinjena nova metoda intervencijskog liječenja s prikazom podležeće anatomske/hemodinamske patologije te prikazom nove metode. Rezultati: U navedenom periodu uvedeno je pet novih perkutanih metoda, učinjenih u ukupno 34 pacijenta. Učinjeno je trinaest intervencija umetanja stenta u trinaest pacijenata s koarktacijom aorte. Srednja dob pacijenata kojima je učinjen perkutani zahvat umetanja stenta u koarktaciju aorte jest 13,4 godine. U navedenom periodu u šestero pacijenata stenoza pulmonalne grane liječena je umetanjem stenta. Od toga je troje pacijenata bilo dojenačke dobi, jedno u dobi od šesnaest mjeseci, jedno u dobi od četiri godine te jedna pacijentica u dobi od petnaest godina. U tri bolesnika učinjeno je perkutano umetanje zalistka Melody (kravlja jugularna vena integrirana u prekriveni stent), srednje dobi kod zahvata 17,3 godine. Metodom dilatacije stenta, zbog razvoja restenoze, liječili smo deset pacijenata, kod čega sedam dilatacijom prethodno umetnutog stenta u rekoarktaciju aorte, dva pacijenta dilatacijom stenta umetnutog na poziciji restenoze pulmonalnih grana te jednog dilatacijom stenta u stenotičnoj gornjoj šupljoj veni. Peta metoda koje je uvedena jest zatvaranje aortopulmonalnih kolaterala u djece s univentrikulskom cirkulacijom. Učinjena je u dvoje djece, dojenčeta u dobi od četiri mjeseca i pacijentice u dobi od tri i pol godine, a koji boluju od sindroma hipoplastičnoga lijevog srca. Svi su zahvati učinjeni uz povoljan hemodinamski rezultat, bez akutnih uz zahvat vezanih komplikacija. Zaključak: Uvođenjem novih metoda stekli smo nova znanja, poboljšali razinu dostupne skrbi u Republici Hrvatskoj (RH) te u konačnici i utjecali na smanjenje slanja složenih bolesnika u inozemstvo te tako reducirali troškove.
Noise and toluene can have significant adverse effects on different systems in the human body, but little is known about their combination. The aim of this study was to see how their combined action ...reflects on serum levels of inflammatory cytokines tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), body weight, and pathological changes in the heart, lung, stomach, and spleen tissues. To do that we exposed New Zealand rabbits to 1000 mg/L toluene and 100 dB of white noise in a chamber specifically designed for the purpose over two consecutive weeks. Serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β were measured with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), whereas Bax and Bcl-2 expressions in tissues were determined with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Noise and toluene changed TNF-α and IL-1β serum levels on different days following the end of exposure and significantly increased the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in the lung and spleen. In addition, they induced different pathological changes in the heart, lung, spleen, and stomach tissues. This study has confirmed that exposure to noise and toluene can induce a range of toxicopathological changes, probably by inducing inflammatory pathways and apoptosis, but their combined effects look weaker than those of its components, although histopathological findings suggest the opposite.

Polazeći od antičkih filozofa i sokratskih razgovora, preko Augustina, Boetija i Dantea Alighierija, do Wittgensteina, Jaspersa i Pierrea Hadota, ovo istraživanje upućuje na filozofiju kao ars ...medicinalis i philosophia medicans, tj. na terapeutsku funkciju filozofije. Rad otkriva da filozofija, usmjerena na stvarnost, na život i na način kako treba živjeti, kao liječnica u kriznim životnim situacijama potiče na razgovor i promišljanje, prepoznaje uzroke bolesti i određuje terapiju, vodi do ozdravljenja bolesti duše, srca, uma i jezika, te da stoga čovjek svakoga doba u filozofiji može naći radost prijelaza iz bolesti k zdravlju.
Starting from Antique philosophers and Socratic discourses, to Augustine, Boethius, and Dante Alighieri, to Wittgenstein, Jaspers, and Pierre Hadot, this study draws attention to philosophy as ars medicinalis and as philosophia medicans, i.e., to the therapeutic function of philosophy, while revealing that philosophy, directed to reality, to life and to the way one ought to live, as a physician in critical life situations, prompts one to discuss and to reflect, recognises causes of illness and proscribes therapies, leads to healing of illnesses of the soul, heart, mind, and language, and, thus, a human person of each era can find in philosophy the joy of transitioning from illness to health.
Proton-transport-membrane water gas shift (WGS) reactors, based on thin dense SrCe0.7Zr0.2Eu0.1O3−δ membranes on tubular Ni–SrCe0.8Zr0.2O3−δ supports, were developed to increase H2 yields relative to ...thermodynamic limitations. Pure H2 permeate, total H2 production, and reactor side CO conversion and H2/CO effluent ratio were measured as a function of temperature, flow rate, CO concentration and H2O/CO feed ratios. CO conversion, total H2 production and yield, and the H2/CO in the reactor side effluent increased with increasing temperature and H2O/CO feed ratios. CO conversions of 84% and 90% were achieved at 900°C with H2O/CO feed ratios of 1/1 and 2/1, respectively. These respective 77% and 44% increases in CO conversion compared to feed gas condition thermodynamics resulted in 73% and 42% increases in H2 production. Permeated H2 and total H2 production increased with increasing flow rate and CO concentration. Finally, membrane stability under WGS conditions was significantly improved by Zr substitution.
► A water gas shift reactor was fabricated with SrCe0.7Zr0.2Eu0.1O3−δ. ► Experimental results were compared to that from thermodynamic simulation. ► CO conversion and H2 production significantly improved with the membrane reactor. ► The membrane reactor was stable under water gas shift reaction conditions.
Clothianidin is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide interfering with the central nervous system by acting as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. Although previous studies on fish report low ...toxicity, its proven toxic potential for aquatic invertebrates and lack of data on its effect on juvenile fish have prompted us to investigate its adverse effects in environmentally relevant concentrations of 3, 15 and 30 μg/L for 7, 14 and 21 days on heart and spleen tissues of 10-month-old rainbow trout (
). We detected a conspicuous increase in protein carbonyl and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, which triggered antioxidant response of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), resulting in increased levels of glutathione (GSH). Clothianidin inhibited the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and lowered tissue protein levels. Heart tissue weight increased, while that of spleen decreased significantly. The effects were time- and concentration-dependent. What raises particular concern is the inhibition of AChE in the trout, even though clothianidin is claimed to be selective for insect receptors. Increased antioxidant activity in response to oxidative stress was clearly insufficient to keep MDA and protein carbonyl at normal levels, which evidences the pro-oxidant potency of the insecticide. All this calls for further investigation into potential adverse effects on biological pathways in different fish species.
Od prve transplantacije srca 1967. u svijetu se na godinu izvede oko 3500 novih transplantacija srca, uz prosječno posttransplantacijsko preživljenje od 15 godina. Danas je sve češće da skupina ...pacijenata s transplantiranim srcem bude podvrgnuta nekardijalnim operacijama, što je novi izazov za anesteziološko zbrinjavanje zbog patofizioloških i farmakoloških interakcija s denerviranim presatkom srca, nuspojava imunosupresivne terapije, rizika od infekcije i odbacivanja transplantata. U ovom prikazu pacijentici s transplantiranim srcem potpuno
je uklonjena štitnjača (tiroidektomija) zbog papilarnog karcinoma štitnjače. Pacijentica je bila I. kategorije prema klasifikaciji NYHA-e (New York Heart Association) i III. kategorije prema klasifikaciji ASA-e (American Society of Anesthesiologists), uz urednu funkciju alopresatka i stabilan sinusni ritam. Zahvat je izveden u općoj endotrahealnoj anesteziji. Neuromuskularni blok prekinut je sugamadeksom (Bridion®, Merck) i bolesnica je otpuštena kući nakon 3 dana.
