The growing consumer consciousness is accelerating the interest in sustainable products that offer better value and longevity. Slow fashion is one such philosophy that aims to provide meaningful and ...sustainable products advocating the needs of stakeholders. In this exploratory study, we find the barriers and support mechanisms affecting the adoption of slow fashion, specifically Indian handloom. The handloom industry is gradually depleting, posing challenges for stakeholders in the value chain. Though the extant literature delineates several factors, it does not explain the inter-factor interactions nor integrates these factors into themes. We conducted 36 in-depth multi-stakeholder interviews and found eight barriers preventing handloom adoption as a slow fashion alternative and five support mechanisms that counter these barriers. An extensive thematic analysis, led to seventeen sub-themes as barriers and eleven sub-themes as support mechanisms. We established a framework through matrix analysis to map support mechanisms addressing the corresponding barriers. The study's practical implications can be related to UN SDGs.
Health care chaplains are faith providers with theological education, pastoral experience, and clinical training who provide spiritual care to patients, their families, and medical staff. This study ...sought to characterize chaplains’ experiences providing spiritual care for patients experiencing abortion and pregnancy loss and to explore how chaplains gain competency and comfort in providing pastoral care for this patient population.
Researchers conducted in-depth, semistructured, qualitative interviews with currently-practicing chaplains recruited via convenience sampling in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. We analyzed interviews using directed content analysis and coded using both inductive and deductive coding.
We interviewed 13 chaplains. The majority were Protestant and identified as Democrats. Participants often personally struggled with the acceptability of abortion but emphasized the importance of spiritual care for this patient population. They recognized that religious stigma regarding abortion prevented referrals to chaplaincy. Though desiring to contribute, chaplains reported little formal education in pregnancy support counseling. They relied on foundational pastoral care skills, like holding space, values clarification, connecting with patients’ spirituality, words of comfort, ritualistic memorialization, and resource provision. All desired more training specific to abortion and pregnancy loss in chaplaincy education.
Chaplains from varied faith backgrounds have a diverse set of skills to support patients experiencing abortion or pregnancy loss, but feel underutilized and lacking in formal training. Though not all patients require pastoral support, chaplains can be critical members of the care team, particularly for those patients experiencing spiritual distress.
Chaplains have a paucity of training in supporting patients experiencing abortion and pregnancy loss. Chaplains want to be involved with patients experiencing abortion but feel excluded by both patients and practitioners. Standardization of pastoral care training is important to ensure adequate spiritual support for patients who desire such services.
Background
Meta-dehumanisation and self-dehumanisation have been identified as potentially relevant phenomena for developing a deeper understanding of distress related to voice-hearing, particularly ...those experiencing voices as part of psychosis. Chadwick has previously argued that those with psychosis, including those who hear distressing voices, typically feel “dehumanised and set apart by their experiences of psychosis and trauma.” The present study explores the subjective experience of self-dehumanisation in people who experience distressing voices, which was selected as a useful starting point to inform future research focused on understanding dehumanisation in people with psychosis.
Methods
Qualitative data was obtained through twenty semi-structured interviews with self-identifying voice hearers and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. This followed the recursive six phase procedure of Braun and Clarke, and this was conducted from a critical realist, contextualist position.
Results
Reflexive thematic analysis of participant’s experiences produced a core theme, Dehumanisation as the End of Experiential Continua, and six subthemes: Extent of Distressing Sensory Fragmentation; Sense of Belonging with Other Humans; Integrity of Self as a Private, Coherent Entity; Sense of Worth as a Human Being; Strength of Personal Agency; and Trust in Own Credibility and Reliability. Two further themes, The Push and Pull of Dehumanising Forces and Reclaiming Life through Humanising Forces, were identified. Findings were presented to a panel of five experts by experience, all with lived experience of psychosis and service-use; all five strongly endorsed the themes as fitting with and expressing their own experiences of self-dehumanisation.
Conclusion
Reflexive thematic analysis of voice hearers’ accounts identified self-dehumanisation as the endpoint where six experiential continua coalesce. Experiential movement along these continua was affected by a range of interpersonal, intrapersonal, and societal forces over time, including dehumanising attitudes of others and voice malevolence and omnipotence. Future research might examine if and how psychological therapies aimed at those experiencing distressing voices, such as people experiencing psychosis may address feelings of self-dehumanisation.
Objective. This paper aims to study the views, perceptions and representations of online hate speech among adolescents in the Greek cohort of the SELMA Project.Methods. Qualitative research was ...conducted in focus groups of 36 Greek adolescents and the data were processed through thematic analysis method.Results. The majority was unfamiliar with the term “hate speech” and confused it with cyberbullying. The target characteristics of hate, ethnicity, race, gender, religion, physical weakness, disability, sexual orientation, and appearance emerged. Regarding people involved in hate speech, perpetrators in both hate speech and bullying were described to share common characteristics. The emphasis was placed on the victims’ resilience, as well as their socialization, as protective behaviors. Participants stressed the value of the right to freedom of speech, although there was no agreement on its limits. Additionally, it was highlighted that awareness of what is right and wrong is mostly taught by parents, while the role of education was also important. An important finding was that the majority of teenagers were optimistic, supporting the belief that it is possible to find a realistic solution.Conclusion. The findings support the need for prevention strategies in the school environment, so that adolescents will be able to recognize and potentially combat hate speech in the online and offline worlds.
The purpose of this study was to explore comprehensively expectations of patients with colorectal cancer towards nursing care in the chemotherapy context.
A purposive sample of patients with ...colorectal cancer (n = 15) was interviewed individually at the outpatient clinic in one university hospital chemotherapy unit. The data were analysed with thematic analysis.
Three main themes were identified in the data. Firstly, patients expected to be empowered with knowledge of disease process, side effects and their self-management and peer support. Secondly, patients expected to be humanely encountered, which included being encountered with support, compassion and hope. Thirdly, patients expected to be skillfully cared for with systematic assessment, expertise, continuity and advocacy.
Besides reliable knowledge of cancer treatment and care, patients expected the sympathetic presence of a nurse whose professional skills they can trust. The results may be utilised in intervention development by focusing on themes significant to these patients. The results may help nurses to enhance person-centred care as well as to encounter patients according to their expectations.

Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) is a useful tool to investigate antecedents and consequences of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), a robust predictor of Veteran suicide risk. Despite elucidating temporal changes among dynamic variables, EMA remains underutilized to study NSSI among veterans, perhaps due to concerns of safety and utility. The present study analyzed data collected from semi-structured interviews of veterans following a 28-day EMA study of NSSI, including benefits, challenges, and recommendations for improvement. Participants included 34 veterans endorsing NSSI history, most meeting criteria for NSSI Disorder. Qualitative analysis of de-identified transcripts used the rigorous and accelerated data reduction (RADaR) technique and thematic analysis. Findings revealed all veterans reported at least one emotional/social benefit to participation, including finding it therapeutic, gaining self-awareness/insight, and improved social functioning. Challenges and recommendations were primarily technology-related, including adjustment to device use. Many expressed interest in incorporation of clinical resources, use of personal devices/VA app, and ability to share responses with providers. Assessment frequency/content was never described as triggering suicidal/nonsuicidal urges and over half of participants noted urge/behavior reduction. Results support acceptability and safety of EMA for NSSI among veterans and potential clinical utility as a psychotherapy adjunct to promote self-awareness and NSSI reduction.
In an increasingly strained maternity care system with a shortage of midwives and great demands for service, pregnant women in their early labour are at risk of receiving insufficient support. Women ...make calls and visit the labour ward on multiple occasions before being admitted. A video call with a labour ward midwife during early labour is an unknown practice but could support pregnant women and their partners during this uncertain period.
The study aimed to describe women’s experiences of remote video calls with a labour ward midwife during early labour.
A qualitative study comprising nine semi-structured interviews followed by an inductive thematic analysis was conducted.
The results revealed that video calls prepared women and their partners by means of practical support. They received an assessment of early labour and the interaction with labour ward midwives prepared them for the impending birth. The participants reported feeling secure and strengthened by being met at their current stage of labour. Furthermore, they found the service accessible, easy to use and emphasised the need for increased availability and continuity.
This study highlights the positive impact of video calls in early labour when conducted by competent labour ward midwives. The perceived accessibility and ease of use e-health system underscore a demand for extended availability. These findings indicate the potential benefits of integrating video calls in labour care to enhance support, security, accessibility and overall satisfaction for pregnant women and their partners.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to provide a synthesis of the state of research on collaborative innovation in tourism and hospitality. It presents a systematic review of the academic ...literature, and provides insights into the specific issues addressed by studies in this area.
Design/methodology/approach
A search of major research databases with multiple keywords was performed to identify relevant articles up to 2017. A total of 79 articles were identified and analyzed according to the following criteria: location of the study, perspective of analysis, methodology, level of analysis and specific themes addressed.
Findings
Based on a qualitative thematic analysis, five groups of articles were identified: cooperative behavior of innovating firms, co-creation, collaborative networks for innovation, knowledge transfer and innovation policies.
Research limitations/implications
This study contributes to making the current body of knowledge on collaborative innovation in tourism and hospitality more organized. The analysis of the different issues addressed by the literature could build the foundation for future research.
Originality/value
This study presents a comprehensive review of literature on collaborative innovation in tourism and hospitality. It can serve as a roadmap of literature for both academicians and practitioners, and help stimulate further interest.
Adoptive parents' role is to accompany their children in the process of integrating issues occurred before the adoption, so that adoptees reach a meaningful narrative. This research explored adoptive ...parents' perspective on communication about origins and search. Thirty adopters with children between 14 and 26 years old took part in interviews analyzed following Thematic Analysis. Results showed a perception of openness in communication and an adequate comprehension of their children, sometimes hindered by the seemingly little importance their children give to their origins, or the reduced communication about them. Moreover, it was found that, sometimes, parents are the ones showing more interest in the search for origins.
