The goal of this paper is to estimate (with the data available) the impact of tourism as a factor of shared growth at the local or municipal level in Mexico. This country provides an excellent ...research example due to its socioeconomic characteristics, the fact that tourism is an important economic activity and that, in spite of not having an ideal database to prove empirically that tourism is associated to shared growth, there are reliable databases that combined may provide insightful information. The main findings are: first, tourist destinations in general have better economic conditions that neighbor communities. Second, in general we find that growth in tourism (growth in tourism related employment) is associated to more employment, to lower percentage of population working in social security, and to better figures in the Human Development Index (HDI). It has also been found that growth in maquila and oil industries do not present these positive impacts.
Planning is fundamental for assure tourism destinations competitiveness and sustainability. However, the planning benefits in the natural, social, economic and cultural environment only are achieved ...when planning is implemented of adequate form. So, there is the need of understand the organizational structure of the Tourism Planning, as well as identify and analyze the inherent functions of the planner, what consist the aim of this article. This theoretical approach enumerates the most important functions of the tourism planner.

Entretanto, os benefícios do planeamento nos campos ambiental, sócio-económico e cultural somente são alcançados quando o processo de planeamento é implementado de forma adequada. Para tanto, há a necessidade de compreender a estrutura organizacional do Planeamento Turístico, assim como identificar e analisar as funções inerentes ao papel do planeador, o que constitui o principal objectivo deste artigo. Trata-se de uma abordagem teórica que termina por enumerar as principais funções do planeador turístico.

This study estimates the contribution of nature-based tourism in Zambia to economic growth and poverty reduction as well as to the sustainability of the management of the wildlife estate. The Zambian ...Government has identified tourism along with agriculture, mining and manufacturing as the most important sectors for economic development in its various planning documents, including the 2007 Fifth National Development Plan (FNDP). This report is organized into three sections: chapters two and three characterize the tourism industry and the economic impact of nature tourists. Using a variety of sources of information, the two chapters profile the tourism industry in Zambia and analyze the barriers to growth. The chapter four investigates the welfare of communities living in game management area (GMAs) around national parks. These communities are the most likely to suffer from wildlife conflicts and/or benefit from economic activities in and around the parks. A household survey compares the welfare of communities living in GMAs with ordinary rural communities. The chapter five analyzes the performance of Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) during its first five year of existence, and explores the current state of the management of the wildlife estate and its potential to contribute to economic growth through tourism.

Apparue en 1911, la dénomination «Côte d'Opale» ne s'est appliquée définitivement que vers 1970 aux côtes qui s'étendent de part et d'autre du pas de Calais. Elle est justifiée par les reflets irisés ...et colorés de la mer et des ciels, évoquant ceux de l'opale, une pierre utilisée en joaillerie. L'étendue de la Côte d'Opale a beaucoup varié pour les différents auteurs au fil des ans, et semble donc maintenant correspondre aux quatre arrondissements littoraux du département du Pas-de-Calais, couverts par la Mission Côte d'Opale créée en 1989. L'auteur montre quels enjeux culturels, économiques, politiques et d'aménagement sont recouverts par les vicissitudes de ces appellations touristiques.
What is the Côte d'Opale ? Or the uneasy adjustment of a tourist area, of an image and of an appellation.
The «Côte d'Opale» denomination appeared in 1911. It was definitively applied to the French coast along the Strait of Dover only about 1970. It is justified by the colours and hues of the rainbow of sea and sky, which look like the opal, a jewellery-used stone. Through various authors, the size of the Côte d'Opale was very changing : in length, to 190 km from the French-Belgian border to Criel (Normandy) ; in depth, to 50 km from the sea. About 1975, the Picardy Coast came off from it, and about 1985, the North department Coast. Now the Côte d'Opale seems to be only the 4 coastal districts of Calais, Boulogne, Montreuil and Saint-Omer. These districts are covered by the Mission Côte d'Opale, an official «département» agency created in 1989 in order to promote and coordinate the tourism planning and development connected with the Channel Tunnel. The author shows which cultural, economical, political and development stakes stay beyond the vicissitudes of these tourist appellations.
