Travel vlogging is gaining popularity and studying the practice of travel vlogging can provide insights into tourist behaviour, communication, and management. The notion of practice was adopted as ...the theoretical base and the analytical framework. A qualitative approach was employed, including interviews with 12 strategically sampled vlogger tourists and analysis of their vlog productions. The findings suggested that travel vlogging is a practice bundle constructed by four sequential practices; designing, filming, editing, and posting. Through a collaborative relationship, the four practices achieve the shared meanings of self-concept expressions, a sense of documentation and ritual, and pleasures in vlogging. Moreover, travel vlogging affects tourist experiences; it creates a self-other divide, mediates the experiences of the 'self', and moderates the experiences of the 'others'. Such impacts vary across the dimensions of travel stages, materiality, and engagement. Theoretically, the study offers fresh insights into the practice of vlogging and the creation of travel vlog content; pragmatically, understandings and implications for quality experiences of vlogger tourists are addressed.
Students find it hard to speak English despite the fact that they have the basic knowledge of the language due to the lack of motivation and confidence. As the technology advances, teachers must be ...willing to take advantage of the potential channels provided by it. This study aims to improve students’ motivation and confidence to speak English through the use of Vlog in the YouTube Channel as well as to find out the element that affect the most to the improvement of the motivation and confidence. The data were obtained through classroom observations, questionnaires and interviews. In terms of findings, this study revealed that the use of vlog in the YouTube Channel improved students’ motivation and confidence. The data also suggested that students were most motivated and confident to speak English because they were given enough time to think of what they wanted to talk about and it was done in the place they found familiar. Therefore, teachers are suggested to bring technology into the classrooms more often and adjust it to the situation where students find it convenient to speak up.
Travel vlogs are popular, but how audiences get involved while watching remains unclear. This study explored audience involvement along with expressions of travel intention. A systematic sampling ...procedure was developed, filtering 132 ‘highly involving sessions’ from 25 videos in Bilibili, a Chinese video-sharing platform. Qualitative analyses were applied, and the findings were threefold. Firstly, a five-category video content typology was highlighted, including frame aesthetics, video editing, fandom, humour, and tourist experiences. Secondly, bullet comments were deconstructed into six dimensions through examining concepts of ‘audience involvement’. Lastly, to address possible patterns of travel intention linked to the video content types, three propositions were made. This work serves as an exploration of audience involvement in the travel vlog phenomenon, an elaboration of travel intention expression in this context, and a method of assessing tourist-generated videos through bullet comments. Practical implications were discussed.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, but few of the currently proposed in-depth models based on social media data take into account both temporal and spatial information in the data ...for the detection of depression. In this paper, we present an efficient, low-covariance multimodal integrated spatio-temporal converter framework called DepMSTAT, which aims to detect depression using acoustic and visual features in social media data. The framework consists of four modules: a data preprocessing module, a token generation module, a Spatial-Temporal Attentional Transformer (STAT) module, and a depression classifier module. To efficiently capture spatial and temporal correlations in multimodal social media depression data, a plug-and-play STAT module is proposed. The module is capable of extracting unimodal spatio-temporal features and fusing unimodal information, playing a key role in the analysis of acoustic and visual features in social media data. Through extensive experiments on a depression database (D-Vlog), the method in this paper shows high accuracy (71.53%) in depression detection, achieving a performance that exceeds most models. This work provides a scaffold for studies based on multimodal data that assists in the detection of depression.
An illocutionary act is a speech act that is usually identified by explicit performative sentences. The research on illocutionary acts in vlogs is an action that shows the meaning of speech during ...communication. This study aims to describe illocutionary acts on Fiersa Besari's vlog YouTube channel Jangan Lupa Senyum Part 1 along with its speech function. The method used in this research is the descriptive method. The form of research used here is qualitative research. The data source in this study is the vlog Jangan Lupa Senyum Part 1 on the Fiersa Besari YouTube channel. The data in this study are transcripts of conversations between characters in vlogs. Data collection techniques in research using the observation method and note-taking techniques. The findings in the research in this vlog were only 15 utterances of illocutionary speech acts. From the 15 utterances, 7 data on assertive illocutionary acts, 2 directive illocutionary acts, and 7 expressive illocutionary acts. From this research, it is expected that we can understand the function of illocutionary acts that are relevant to everyday life

Video-Blogging (Vlog) is one of the media that is of interest to today's millennial youth because it contains audiovisuals and digital images so that it can attract the attention of teenagers. One of ...the health promotion strategies using Vlog is to increase adolescent knowledge about HIV / AIDS. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health promotion using vlog media on the level of adolescent knowledge. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental, one group pre and post-test design without a control group and a descriptive correlation. The sampling techniques is using a purposive sampling technique as many as 64 students. Statistical test using Wilcoxon and Kendal's tau. The univariate results in this study were 45.3% male and 54.7% female, 43.8% information media from Radio/Tv / Internet. The results of the bivariate analysis were differences before and after health promotion (p-value = 0.000), but there was no significant relationship between vlog media and changes in knowledge levels (p-value = 0.249). The strategy to increase knowledge about HIV / AIDS in adolescents needs to be modified according to several other types of media so that the effectiveness of each media can be seen clearly.
The use of appropriate media in the learning and teaching process especially in teaching speaking is quite important for the lecturers to have students' the best result. The video blog (Vlog) is one ...of the media that commonly used by lecturers in teaching speaking English to gain students' motivation in speaking. The main aim of this study is to investigate the lecturer's strategy in implementing video blog as a media in teaching speaking. Besides, it is also to identify the difficulties of vlog implementation in teaching speaking. To achieve the objectives, the descriptive qualitative approach in the form of a case study was chosen as the method of the research. Observation and interview were collected as the data to the class 2A, a second-semester student of Computer Engineering Students of Politeknik Harapan Bersama, Tegal, Indonesia. The data from classroom observation were obtained from activity portrait, video recording, students and lecturers' notes, and interview during observation. The data analysis presented by using descriptive explanation, and the data result from lecturers' interview were summarized by using the table and described based on the phenomenon that found during the observation. The finding of data showed that the lecturer applied task-based learning to implement vlog in speaking skill. The lecturers did not only show the vlog to the students in teaching speaking as the media but also asked them to make it by their selves and uploaded it to the YouTube Channel as the new references of English vlog. Lecturers began the learning and teaching process with pre tasks: introduction, review to the previous material; then continued to the main tasks: showing the model/media, giving task, and discussion; and closed by the post-task: evaluation and feedback. Moreover, the difficulties faced by the lecturers in implementing vlog in teaching speaking were a distinct range of students' English scores especially in speaking, the improper gadget that owns by the students’ to make the video blog, and lack of students’ creativity in building the video blog content to make it interesting to be watched. In line with the previous studies, which stated that video blog is interesting and it can improve students' speaking skill effectively.
