  • The Corinthian Church in A. D. 96: Clement's Exhortation to Unity
    Peterlin, Davorin
    ǂThe ǂarticle examines Clement's letter to the disunited Corinthian church as a carefully composed exhortation to unity. Clement finds the rationale for the exhortation in God's will for order and ... harmony, and identifies repentance, obedience and humility as the basic presuppositions in the adressees. Each of the notions is illustrated by examples from the scriptures or the natural world. Clement then returns to the notion of order, without which in his opinion there is no unity in the Christian congregation, and underlines it by six further examples. As a matter of practical steps Clement urges disciplining troublemakers who are to submit to it willingly, and the restoration of previous order and unity.
