    In this paper we are presenting a new generation of photomultipliers exhibiting high sensitivity, fast time response, low background and extended dynamic range. The new photodetector is very compact ... design and very rugged. Due to small volume, the maintance of ultra-high vacuum conditions is of great importance for the tube storage and operational life. All available photocathodes are processed and hermetically sealed using the transfer technique. Electron multiplication is enabled by a high-gain and extremly low-background channel electron multiplier serving also as an enclosure of thenew mini electron tube. The applied channel electron multipliers exhibit good single electron response, i.e. narrow pulse height distribution and high peak-to-valley ratio, and are therefore, aviable to distinguish single electron events. The new channel photomultipliers are very useful in single photon counting applications, especially when detecting very weak light signals.
