    Fležar, Matjaž ; Šorli, Jurij, 1942- ; Milič-Emili, Jože
Background. Lung function testing started 152 years ago with the description of FVC maneuver by J. Hutchinson. Recent advances in assessment of lung function provided new insights in lung mechanics ... and called for novel standards for performing spirometry in clinical practice. It has been postulated that the flows during the FVC manuvr depend significantly on the pattern of the preceding inspiratory maneuver. The preceding inspiration should therefore be standardized. Conclusions. The negative experatory pressure (NEP) technique provides a simple and reliable tool for detecting expiratory flow-limitation both at rest and during the forced expiratory maneuvers.
