  • Zur Uraufführung meiner Oper Kriton

    My relationship to Platon's texts became an existential issue for me at a certain time of my life. I created Kriton "in deepest misery", completely in the sense of Bach's Lutheran chorale. I felt ... obliged to move human beings through the expressive means of my art. Musically speaking, the protagonists in Kriton are portrayed by means of different "tempi", different kinds of diction and instrumentation, and, most of all, by means of two different, yet related, twelve-tone rows. The complete work is formally based on the principle of the "golden section". In the opera Kriton the musical-dramatical plot is loaded with religious intensity, which not least becomes evident through the numerous secret symbols woven into the score. My work was premiered with great sensivity by the students of the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz conducted by Wolfgang Schmid, staged by Christian Pöppelreiter
