  • Water quality optimization by introducing additional CO2
Lobnik, Aleksandra ; Poberžnik, Mojca ; Mekiš, Andrej
Water quality for human consumption is of optimal quality when it is brought in thermodynamic balance with all present carbonate fractions. Drinking water pre=preparation, based on siubsequent ... addition of CO2 as a natural part of healthy drinking water performs an environment-friendly low-cost process of improving drinking water quality. Some experiments including inducing different amounts of additional CO2, observations of limestone precipitation, on-line measurements of aqueous CO2, pH values, conductivity and temperature were performed on a pilot device. Water composition was analysed by automatic titration and ion chromatography. Some calculations using the geochemical program PHREEQC were done to find the right equation for modelling the reaction kinetics of calcite precipitation during heating and cooling processes in closed systems. The first set of presented experiments in other seasons as the seasonal influence on tap water composition and this will be considered by hydrochemical modelling.
