  • The influence of road infrastructure on global supply chains
Knez, Matjaž, 1975- ; Rosi, Bojan
The brutal contemporary globalisation process and growing competition both exert influence on business operations of every single economic system. This is well reflected in the search for the ... possibilities of new connections or partnerships between businesses with the aim to reduce costs, increase responsiveness to market situations and gain a competitive advantage. From the viewpoint of business operations, the main concern of businesses is the management and computerising of supply chains, in order to influence the flow of goods, information, capital and services from raw material suppliers, factories, warehouses and distribution companies to final users. Within this process of movement, the road and road networks or transport routes, integrated into individual links of the supply chain, play an important role. The lower the number of bottle-necks, the more effective, synchronised and competitive the supply chain, that contributes to the highest quality of services or goods, at lowest possible costs. This paper aims to examine, how the road infrastructure influences the effectiveness and the success of supply chains from different viewpoints, that of responsiveness and that of costs.
