    Jurančič, Klementina Penelope
The present paper is part of a broader study on the pronunciation of English in Slovenia. The latter emerged with the need to determine the current situation in the pronunciation of English at ... primary and secondary school level in order to establish factors which have positive and/or negative influence on English pronunciation. Beside correct responses, deviant ones were dealt with. They were classified into the following larger groups according to source: Influence of GA (General American) English (if we can call such responses deviant or at least unacceptable), Orthographic interference, Dialect interference, Speech errors and Other. The present paperwill concentrate on the former two. In several cases, overlapping of various types of interference occurred. In some instances of influence of GA, for example, the distinction between this influence and orthographic interference was not so clear, especially in the case of speakers who did not use the GA English variety consistently. Such errors could be considered non-errors if GA were the sound system on which these were matched irrespective of the source of error (either orthographic interference or the influence of GA English) and if the so-called "bidialectal approach" (cf. Crystal (1996: 40( and the "World Standard English" were generally accepted
