  • Teaching molecular and cellular life sciences within the confines of biological and biomedical sciences = Poučevanje molekularne in celične biologije v okvirih bioloških in biomedicinskih ved
    Dawson, Maureen M ; Smith, Christopher A
Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is a new university formed from Manchester Polytechnic in 1992. However, its Department of Biological Scienceshas been running degree programmes for nearly ... thirty years. Molecular and cellular life sciences are taught to students on full- and part-time degree and HNC programmes in biological and biomedical sciences. The demands of the timetable for a diverse menu of biological subjects, increases in student numbers and reduced resources restricted the time available for teaching molecular and cellular biology. Staff teaching molecular and cellularbiology have made difficult choices over which areas to emphasise, howthey should be delivered and the students assessed (Gaffney & al. 1995, Smith & al. 1995). These topics have also been discussed in the UK biochemistry community (Wrigglesworth 1996, Smith 1999). Some of the approaches adopted by MMU are described.
