  • Formale Systemäquivalenzlücken in zweisprachigen Wörterbüchern mit Hinübersetzungsfunktion
    Enčeva, Milka
This contribution contains a thesis postulating that the lexicographical equivalence relation in bilingual dictionaries is reversible whenever the lemma signs in the macro structute of an X-Y ... dictionary appear as equivalents in the commentaries about fonn and meaning in a Y-X dictionary. This is not the case with many of the entries. Much of the German vocabulary in a Slovenian-German dictionary is not taken into consideration when describing equivalents and, moreover, cannot be considered due to the current lexicographical methodology. Hence there is a high percentage of irreversibility marking the lexicographical equivalence relation, which impairs the translation function of the dictionary to a great extent. This problem arises from the dominant position of the source language as compared to the target language in a bilingual dictionary. The most endangered are target language words whose equivalents in the source language do not belong to the word level of the language system. This is why, in a Slovenian-Gennan dictionary, German words like bereifen, vergittern, entschalen, entschlammen, Umweltschutz, Übergröße, and many others, have a very small chance of appearing as an equivalent of a Slovenian word. Three procedures that may help to deal with this deficiency of bilingual dictionaries are discussed.
