  • The effect of variable fluid properties on velocity and temperature field at classical Couette flow with viscous dissipation [Elektronski vir]
Kocutar, Primož ; Škerget, Leopold ; Ravnik, Jure
This article focuses on the effect of variable fluid properties on the classical two dimensional Couette flow with viscous dissipation. We used numerical scheme, based on the boundary element method. ... The velocity-vorticity formulation of Navier-Stokes equations, Newton fluid model and Fourier heat-diffusion model were employed. The computational simulation includes variable fluid properties for engine oil: dynamic viscosity, density and thermal conductivity are functions of temperature. Velocity and temperature profiles are presented, in comparison with analytical solution, which is valid for constant properties and results presented by other authors for fluid with variable properties. It was found that a variable fluid property plays an important role in the results. The velocity profile has the form of "S" instead of a straight line, which appears at constant properties. From the temperature profile it can be seen, that the fluid is heated on significantly lower temperature than the fluid with constant properties.
