    This paper presents the first and still incomplete formulation of a dilemma that has been forming for quite a while. It approaches the issue of the norm in a bilingual environment from a practical ... rather than a theoretical angle. It discusses the main trends of language cultivation in the Mura Region (Slovenia) through a presentation of the four volumes of language cultivation published here so far. Then it discusses issues of Slovenia Hungarian languageuse, touching briefly upon the questions of norm and codification. It interprets the notions of language error and contact phenomena in the light of results on some linguistic variables, the differences between the two and the reasons and consequences of treating them as one and the same phenomenon. The author discusses these issues relying on language cultivation literature and other publications, theses defended at the authors department, and the author's own experiences. The paper ends with a presentation of the results of a Language use questionnaire administered among high school students in Lendva in June 2004.
