  • Nanofunctionalization with ▫$TiO_2-SiO_2$▫ and reactive dyeing of cotton

    The goal of this research was to investigate the possibility of combining the application of TiO2- SiO2 nanoparticles and reactive dyeing in one-bath exhaustion procedure in order to enhance fabricsć ... blocking ability against harmful UV-rays. Cotton fabric was dyed using reactive dye Bezaktiv Red S-3B 150% in concentration of 0.5% owf and 3, 6 or 9% owf TiO2-SiO2 paste (0.1,0.2 or 0.3% pure TiO2) under three different operational temperatures (60, 80 or 98°C), 70 min. The morphological structures of colloidal dispersionas well as nano-upgraded cotton fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and the UV protection ability by spectrophotometry. Treated samples were also colorimetrically evaluated by means of CIE colour system. The obtained results indicate that the incorporation of TiO2-SiO2 into the dyebath reactive dyes included brought about an outstanding UV protection functionality of the dyed fabrics with a negligible negative impact on colour depending on nanoparticles concentration and treatment temperature.
