  • Classroom furniture and anthropometric measures in primary school [Elektronski vir] = Školski namještaj i antropometričko mjerjenje u osnovnoj školi

    The purpose of this study was to compare pupils body dimensions to the dimensions of school furniture in primary school and their self-reported evaluation of that furniture and frequency of neck pain ... and low back pain. A total of 100 (52 male and 48 female) pupils from Slovenia participated in the study. Their ages ranged from 6,5 to 9,5 years. The following body dimensions were measured: stature, knee height, popliteal height and buttock-popliteal length. In addition, the dimensions were measured for three different types of chairs and tables. Finally, the anthropometric measures of the pupils and the furniture dimensions were compared to identify any mismatches between them. The data indicated a mismatch between pupils body dimensions and the classroom furniture available to them. This situation may cause negative effects on the sitting posture and neck pain and low back pain.
