  • Seismic response of buildings upgraded with the X-Lam timber superstructure [Elektronski vir]
Jančar, Jurij ; Dujič, Bruno ; Premrov, Miroslav, 1967-
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects that different kinds of structure upgrades have on existing buildings during an earthquake. The paper presents a numerical analysis of two RC ... frame structures (with and without masonry infill) upgraded with XLam and timber frame superstructures and upgrades made in the primary construction system. A dynamic response analysis is initially performed for the RC frame structures alone. Than the analysis is repeated for the upgraded structures and their response is compared to the basic structure's response. Results of the numerical analysis will be further validated through the seismic shaking table experiments on test specimens. The specimens will be limited in size and weight due to the capacity of the shaking table at the Institute of earthquake engineering and seismology (IZIIS) in Skopje, Macedonia. The paper highlights the modelling of hysteretic behaviour of RC frames, masonry walls, XLam panels, anchor brackets and hold-downs which influence the seismic response of an upgraded building. Modal analysis, linear and nonlinear time history analysis and sweep tests are performed for basic and upgraded structures. The influence of different upgrade types on the basic structure and interaction between the two systems, each with different stiffness and mass, is observed.
