  • An influence of the math club activities on preservice teachers
    Pangrčič, Polonca ; Lipovec, Alenka
The Didactic pentagon is an experimental program for preservice teachers. It is based on field experience that strengthens the connection between a subject and classroom work. This concept has been ... used in lower primary teacher education at the University of Maribor for the last five years. In this paper, we highlight the effect of this program on preservice teachers' competencies achieved during a longitudinal study (N1=241; N2=102). A questionnaire was distributed twice to the experimental and control group. We have focused on the gap between the desired and achieved competences as viewed by the preservice teachers participating in the program. In the initial test, significant differences appeared in almost every domain. In the final test, some differences diminished, some differences were reduced, and some new arose. In the first two cases the change can be assigned to the higher ratings of the achieved competences. Preservice teachers felt that the program had a positive influence on them. In the third case some desired competences were given higher ratings than in the initial test. It has been supposed that the importance of those competences became more evident to preservice teachers during their participation in the program. It seems that, together with the teacher change effect, the cooperation between university and schools has overcome the lack of preservice teachers' experience.
