  • Effect of maize plant double row spacing on nutrient uptake, leaf area index and yield
    Bavec, Franc ; Bavec, Martina
The effects of plant spacing variability (zigzag arrangement of seeds in double row 0.15 m + 0.55 m and single row spacing 0.70 m in seven plant population densities from 4.5 to 13.0 plants m-2) of ... four maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars FAO 100-400 were tested on leaf area index, net assimilation rate, nutrient uptake and yield in 4-year experiments in Maribor, Slovenia. There are no significant effects between ways of sowing on leaf area index in the stages of brooming and waxy maturity and on net assimilation rate. Influence of the way of sowing on grain yield is significant at 0.05 probability level. Double row spacing resulted in statistically lower yield in the second year, while in the remaining years there were no statistic differences between the ways of sowing. In accordance with the lower grain yield in the uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium with silage mass in the case of double row spacing is lower as well.
