  • Developing science competencies through children's natural activities in their spare time [Elektronski vir] = Razvoj znanstvenih vještina kod djece kroz aktivnosti u slobodnom vremenu
    Golob, Nika
The way of life in a modern society often leads to the separation of man from nature and the environment. Therefore children often enter the obligatory education system with less experience gained ... from the environment on one hand and with much more theoretical knowledge on the other, which they do not know how to properly connect to their environment. In school this gap becomes deeper, if the teachers do not pay enough attention to integrating experimental education into the environment, which can provide primary education level children with activities appropriate for their level of development, through which they would be able to connect knowledge with experience gained from the environment. That could lead to the appropriate level of the development of science competencies. By means of a phenomenographic research method we used a sample of 468 children to identify four categories that define children's motivation to visit the aquatic environment in their spare time. The identified categories of conception provide a deeper insight into children's motivation, which can represent a foundation for gaining new knowledge, changing the viewpoint while being aware of the previous conceptions or the teacher's awareness of pupils' conceptions.
