Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships play a very important role in our communication and lives therefore it is of great importance that the user of EFL is equipped with as many ...resources which realize interpersonal meanings in everyday communication as possible. The paper focuses on the exploration of appraisals, in particular, their forms, sub/categories, amplifications and targets of appraising in relation to writer/reader relationship, their social roles and positions on the register of selected written advertisements. The paper thus illustrates some useful tasks, employing C-R methodology and functional perspective guiding students to certain conclusions about the rationale and purpose behind an individual appraisal chosen by the writer and its contribution to the particular rhetorical potential. The explanation of the references between the observed appraisals and their social context is an aspect which contributes greatly to the development of critical and competent user of English.
