  • Contact problems of gears involving Overhauser splines and generalized constraints

    It is proposed that a numerical approach towards solving the contact problems in gears should be investigated. The inclusion of micro-mechanical models, which adequaely model the true frictional ... relationship and the inclusion of contacting surfaces constitutive equations into the numerical FEM framework would allow realistic estimates of gear life cycle, to correctly predict its wear and eventual tear. Special attention should be devoted to corret modelling of contacting surfaces, considering the symmetry of the analysed structure by the generalised constraints imposition. A range of numerical simulations of standard engaging gears under varying loading conditions is to be conducted, which will allow us to determine the advantages andlimitations of the proposed approach.
